HEII YEAH IT's rare, keep it! Man, they are messing with you, most of the bands from the mississippi flyway are from LAUREL,MD.

I'm not sure from this if you think you have to send in the band or not, but you don't. I may be missunderstanding what you are saying. It is a missconception among some that you have to send the band in. I've even talked to a few newcomers that thought you had done something wrong if you killed a banded bird.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and called in the bands......the person on phone said she couldn't tell me where the ducks were banded b/c the #'s have to be tracked. Anyway, the certificate and check are "on the way". Now I have to decide which mount position would look the best.... I really like the hard landing with wings cupped downward, neck stretched down, and feet fully outstretched.

I've killed 2 banded wood ducks in different seasons and they've both had Laurel, MD. on the band. So perhaps the company that makes most of the bands are located in Laurel, MD. Just a thought.

The "company" is not from Laurel, MD. That's were USFWS is located!!!

I got a $20 dollar one last week on a green head. The green was all rubbed off with a touch of it left inside. It's one of the void 08/06 models. Oh well no money but still a trophy.

That would be my luck too. Haven't killed a reward banded greenhead myself, but when I do, it'll be one with an expiration date. I was fortunate enough to kill a Richardson's Canada in Manitoba a few years ago with a 100 dollar reward band though!
