Infant With RSV

Postby MudHog » Mon Jan 04, 2010 8:16 am

Anybody had to go through this? My 5 month old daughter has it and it's not any fun.

For those that haven't gone through it, RSV is a respiratory illness which is similar to a head cold. Babys can't blow their nose so you have to suction it out. Only it's with a big syrenge that has a small hose attached. Have to stick it down her nose and then pull a suction while you pull the tube out.

We've been blessed in not having to deal with it...yet...but I've got some friends who's son had it for quite some time. No fun for anyone! Good luck!

thanks. she isn't in pain (knock on wood) as she still smiles and laughs when she sees my wife and I. just hard hearing her breath and cry, it's a different cry with the congesstion.

article I read mentioned that most infants will get it at some point before they are 2 years old. Doc said that the effects can last to around 2 years from the time they get it and that it's very contagious between children.

RSV is bad stuff. My nephew had it for a while last year. One of my six month old twin daughters just spent two nights in the hospital for the flu and pneumonia(sp?) They thought she had RSV at first.

Same here... we ended up having to do breathing treatment on the third round with our son. Wasn't really that big of a deal, it does effects every little one differently though.

9 month old is coming out of a bad round of it now. It's been about 8 days of tough sledding with him but we are finally seeing the light.

Bad thing about RSV is it's Viral and they can't do anything about it other than treat the symptoms and let it run it's course..

thats what the doc said too and I read it in an article this morning. makes it harder, but atleast we know what it is and they it does need to take its course. makes it easier on the nerves.

This may be what my little boy has. He's 8 weeks old and has been congested for about 3 weeks. It's gotten better over
the past couple weeks but occasionally he still gets pretty stopped up. Our pediatritian just said use the saline solution and
booger sucker and that's all we could do for him. We got the humidifier/mister thing and hung a sheet over his bed like a tent.
That helped him sleep at night, but it was bad a first. THANKFULLY it has gotten better. It really pizzes me off that you can't
do anything for the little fella especially when you know they can't breath.

The dangerous thing about it is all the Congestion. It's so easy for the Little babies to Develop Pneumonia. We were so Lucky. Lexi never got it and never was really sick when she was small...Hang in there..It'll get better

My son had that when he was born and We went thru the suction cup thing and breathing treatments. Truly, Patience is the only thing that will help. He eventually grew out of it and he is fine. I know what you are going thru and will continue to pray for you and your daughter.. It TOO WILL PASS
