Re: well how many
None taken it just seems that there are alot of people on here who are duck hunting for the wrong reasons if they only care about killing the ducks

Duck season to me is about spending time with friends,my son, and my dog it is not only about killing ducks i went quite a few times this year and never picked my gun up just let my buddies shoot, sit there and worked my dog, took the whole experience of the hunt from watching my buds call and the excitement in their face when ducks were working to watching the dogs anticipation of getting to retrieve to having my son tell me that he loves me and glad that he came hunting. I have a lease that has yeilded few birds, but it is a easy hunt that i can carry my kid on without worrying about him fallin in getting wet and keeping him safe, probably the only reason i get it, when he gets a little older may forget about it. duck numbers were bad, but the memories made this year makes up for it, so its fishing time and ready for turkeys.

I also like the memories and sunrises but I do love the smell of burning powder and blood on the water. Not sure if I will ever get to the point of not wanting to kill some ducks. I agree there is more too it than killing but it sure makes it nice. I have also sit and watched and not shot and still enjoyed the day.
Re: well how many
I was flat out slack jawed amazed at the prices OOS dudes were paying for very marginal property this year. I mean, $20K for stuff that should lease for $3K tops based on what we have payed for land over the last 15 years, and even stuff that I knew had never been flooded before, natural or otherwise. And LOTS of examples of that. I almost fell out a couple of times I was so amazed. And boy did they kill ducks....NOT
Thus, I do not see prices coming down, until we run out of green hunters or idiots. Sad really. I also saw more poaching this year than any year since the 90/91 flood.
That said, there are lots of really good, reasonable priced places, you just never hear about them because the landowners and the hunters are happy, and they seldom change hands.

I agree with everything GC just said. There are two pieces of property right next to ours that are about 50 acres each, never have birds and lease for 5k a year. They get leased every year by someone new (because the folks from last year didn't kill anything) usually Albanians. Blows my mind, but at the same time I can't blame the land owners.
Re: well how many
We won't see lease prices come down any time soon or possibly ever. There are too many people (locals & oos) who believe they have to pay out the butt for a flooded piece of property regardless of it's track record or lack there-of.
I joined a club for the first time this year, and while we killed ducks every weekend they weren't in great numbers. It did keep me from going to all the public places that I have been killing ducks at for the past 15 years and I always thought that I should have been hunting somewhere else with the certain conditions we had this year.
I know there will be at least one club opening for next year and I'll be sitting in the boat at 3:00 in the morning cooking breakfast shining my light at someone hoping they don't try and set-up too close.

what about after more than a few bad years?? and any food you can plant... the guy next door has more in twice as much acreage and only hunts that place once a year, if at all?? a sanctuary, for the overwhelming most part...is it still to (too) much fun to quite (quit
) that place and look for another? is a deer lease worth a duck lease price, when more productive duck leases cost less? what would it take to get a spell check for the forum?? jeeze louise
but donia...whatever would do with your free time if people had spell check
spell check isn't the problem there, the words that are misspelled are still words. grammar check would have gotten it though.

Re: well how many
Let me lay it down for some of you guys. I have duck hunted for 13 years now. I know to some that is not that long. I have never owed or taken part in a lease. All of my hunting has happened on public land. Most importantly on public land that was walk-in cause I don't have the money to purchase a boat. I am originally from Meridian and only get to go back a few time a year. But it never fails my dad and I hunt every morning that I am home. Some days are good but most days we leave with 1 or 2 woodies. I will never forget the morning that my father poured his wisdom on me and my brother. It was a typical slow morning in our public land beaver pond, hot about 68, swatin mosquitoes. When he said,
"Well this hasn't been a great morning but you know we are not guaranteed tomorrow. And we only have a limited number of days and sunrises. And I plan on sharing as may of those sunrises with you boys as possible."
That statement has stuck with me for many years. And every chance I get, with him or not, I take the opportunity to shock in all of the mornings glory. I hear and see so many people talking about how bad a season it is or was. As I said I have hunted for 13 years and I JUST killed my first mallard. And it happened on the last day of season. So I am pumped for next season!
Just remember a bad season is better than the alternative. Each new morning is a gift, enjoy it while you can!

come with me next year. I may not be able to offer much, but I can promise you I will at least double your lifetime mallard kills.

I don't think oos'ers have a monopoly on paying too much for a lease.

That is totally true. But when the OOS guys overpay, they kick it up a notch! And screw it up for the locals, too.

Well explain to me how there is a difference between the two. Overpaying is overpaying.

Re: well how many
well look at it like this -----
sally has some 2 dollar coochie and someone from florida,ga or alabama meet sally and give her 10 for it and realize sallys coochie is worth maybe 2 bucks . well sally now expects the coochie to go for atleast 10 bucks but may settle for 8 if she is in a bind . thus driving the people who know sallys coochie is worth 2 bucks to pay 8 to get it again if they want it.
it is alll simple math but some think they getting a hell of a deal on some half ass coochie or a duck hole that really aint worth it . in turn the next guy gonna have to pay the same price or close even though it aint all that because some dumbass drove up price of duckholes or coochie it seems in mississippi
