I have a 2007 honda rubicon and on the screen where it usually tells me what gear it is in just shows two lines. It doesnt matter if it is R or D or esp it still does it. If i put it in reverse the rev limiter kicks on where it usaually shouldnt and in drive it will not get out of first gear. Any help?????

Try unhooking the postive battery cable and leave it unhooked for about 10 minutes then hook it back up. That will reset the computer and it may fix it.

Might be your transmission about to go out. We just had 2 foreman's with the electronic shift worked on for work. That only cost a cool $1025. The mechanic told me that Honda doesn't quite have all the kinks worked out of their electronic shift transmissions. He said if you're doing anything that requires carrying a big load the ESP's will fail almost 100% of the time. That's the second time we've had to fix one of those and it's only a 2007, but it does have 6000 miles on it. Right before ours went out they would start either flashing the gear number and you'd have to cut if off and then back on to get it to shift or they would do what it sounds like yours is doing. There's nothing wrong with your transmission actually shifting but it's the actuator or some other electronic part that tells it to shift that's broken. The part is only about $150 but the labor will be 3-4 times that plus they have to change the oil and some of the seals I think. We just bought a new one but it's a manual shift. We don't ever have problems out of the motors but those ESP transmissions are expensive.

Killzone, I can not answer the question but have the exact same problem. Talked to Vernon who owns Topdog Power sports in Greenwood and he immediately knew what the problem was and I will be able to tell you soon and what he charges to fix. As I recall, it was some electronic component that had to be replaced.

take u a socket and ratchet wrench and put it on the little bolt head sticking out of the side of the transmission. should be on the left side. used it to rathcet toward the front tires to shift up and toward the back tires to shift down. to put in reverse hold the red button and break and pull your ratchet backwards. Its a straight up cheeseburger rig but it'll work. that's what we did to my uncles bike his is like an 05 i think. you should still be able to use the lectric shift when moving on his you can anyway but it won't work when stopped.

to make a permanet fix we just welded the socket to a pipe and keep it in the tool box on the wheeler. that way when the ES don't work just grab your homemade gear shifter and your going again.

it should cost you roughly 5 bucks. or free if you got an extra socket and piece of small diameter scrap pipe

if nothing else this will hold you over till you can fork out the grand as was fore mentioned if money is tight

and THAT is a duck hunt.

Try holding both push buttons and cut the key from off to on while holding the buttons in. Release the buttons and a code should flash. Then you will be able to look online to see what is wrong with it. I hope this helps

I think you can go to the honda shop and pick up a manual shifter for around 5 bucks. mine come with one.
