NEED TO FIND DOG TRAINING BOOK
NEED TO FIND DOG TRAINING BOOK
do anyone know what the most popular book for training a dog is? NEED HELP!!
most popular?
You mean the one that has all the answers? Lotta good ones around. What are you looking for? Specifics or a full puppy to adult training regimen?
Robert Milner's book Back to the Basics.
hehehe
j/k, there was a heated debate over that book some time ago. I used it, but used some other techniques as well. I'm sure someone around here will be able to give you the heads up on which book is worth the read.

I haven't made it through British retriever Training yet, but I do not think it is as instructive as either Water Dog or Training Your retriever by James Lamb Free, which I am in now. Even though it was written a long, long time go, it is the best in my mind. It is more detailed. It is not an electronic method manual. An Amazon link is pasted below, I think:

Take a look at http://www.wildrosetradingcompany.com and click on training books. You can order the Vic Barlow book and the Milner books there as well as others.

You could buy a dog training book from a writer, or you could buy a dog training book from a dog trainer. One will have better prose.
10 minute retreiver, john and amy dahl. They are professional retreiver trainers, whom happen to write
Dobbs tritronices book, by jim and phyllis dobbs. They are professional dog trainers (retreivers, s&r, bomb, you name it), whom happen to write and do live seminars where they actually train dogs.
Evan Grahams Smartworks series, by Evan Graham. He was a professional dog trainer, a successful field trialer, and a writer as well.
Milner was a professional retreiver trainer, and dabbled at field trials when he wrote his first book. Years later, once he didn't train for the public, and had long since given up any chance at field trials, he came out with a second book that reselmbles nothing in the first. Draw your own conclusions about that I suppose.
Whatever book you choose, choose one and stick with it. Mixxing and matching something you might not understand all of, is not a good ideal and leads to holes in a dog. travis
