Anyone on here ever killed any on Pearl River WMA? just curious... Haven't heard of many people hunting turkey over there and I'm guessing it's because they're few and far between.

yeah its public land, but people can show common courtesy.

3 mornings in a row, 3 incidents.

Day 1. i arrive early and am waiting at my spot and a guy pulls up. He asks "hey, are you saving this spot for someone" And i said "well i am going to hunt here" and he says "yeah me too" and parks. So i go and explain THE RULE (that i was here first, so you must go somewhere else) and that there arent many woods off this short road (maybe 100 acres) and i am going to be covering them all. And he says, "why dont you go right and i'll go left. I have some friends that will be in there coming off private land and i'm meeting them" And i say no, i was here first, RESPECT THE RULE. So he says "why dont we just draw straws" and i say "i would never do this to you, so *&&^&% off" and just walk away to get ready. Luckily he drives off about 5 minutes later. But when i return to my truck, 2 more trucks have come and parked right next to me.

Day 2. I arrive early at a spot nearby on day 2. Two different trucks pull up and ask if i am hunting here, i say yes, they say "have a good morning, good luck" and i say the same. AMEN!!! some people understand THE RULE.

Then i walk into the woods and get about 250 yards from the truck and see another truck pull off the road about 200 yards from my truck. So i stop and start flashing my light towards them. Of course, tweedle dee and tweedle dumb get out. Slam their doors. And start tromping towards me. So i head back still flashing my light straight at them. I say first, "hey, dont you see i am already hunting in here (another small block of woods - maybe 400 yards deep). They respond, "hey so are we" And i remind them of THE RULE. They say “whatever” there are alot of woods in here and this is where we are hunting. So i tell them that that i would never do this to them and they should go somewhere else. And they get testy with me and say, well you weren’t parked in the right spot (even though there is only one road that leads into the woods) and we have been scouting this all week. I respond – “I don’t care how much you’ve scouted, there aren’t enough woods off this spot to SAFELY HUNT without ORANGE on, AND I WAS HERE FIRST. Plus a truck is not nearly as dispositive as a HUNTER standing in the woods flashing his light at you” But of course, they follow me all the way to where I cut into the woods, and I say this is where I am hunting. But of course, after I am setup in the dark and listen to a gobbler fire off for over an hour before flying down, I hear them tromping up behind me after daylight, doing a loud stupid box call. They didn’t even know that the turkey and I were across two creeks. TYPICAL.

Oh yeah – these are grown men too. Not highschoolers. Even though their intelligence is questionable.

Day 3. no incident before the hunt because I left my truck over an hour before sunrise and those who fall into the class of not respecting THE RULE typically show up late. But of course when I come return, some idiot was parked right next to me. The only flattering thing about it is how many rednecks want to follow me around.

I am glad opening weekend is over – and I hope if anyone else who doesn’t understand how to hunt public land decides to go – they understand THE RULE or goes with someone who does.

DON’T BE THAT GUY. DON’T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. DON’T RUIN OTHER HUNTERS HUNTS. IF someone beats you to a spot. GO SOMEWHER E ELSE –IT’S THE RULE!

I would never expect exact details and what knot, I was out there last week calling a little and scouting just to see... I was just curious if anyone actually sees birds there.

It's amazing just how much attention a little red dot laser light gets! Put it on em from about a hundred yards or so out and hold it on there every move. They'll get the message real quick!

In general, I agree. But how big can the area be before you have to share? Case in point: several years ago we got to the parking lot after some other guy. He's ticked that we're still planning on hunting there. But this one parking spot provides the only access for about 3000 acres. Really more than that. Can the guy claim the whole 3000 acres because he got to the parking spot first?

He's ticked that we're not letting him have the whole place. I ask which direction he's going and I tell him we'll go elsewhere and stay out of his way. He doesn't want to tell us where he's going. Finally, he says he's going south of the road. Fine. We agree to go north. At daylight, turkey gobbles 500 yards north of the road. We get set up in good shape. Twenty minutes later, guess who's stomping through the woods between us and the turkey, hooting like a mad man.
