I fished with my grandfather growing up. He's the one that taught me to crappie fish 25+ yrs ago. I've seen
him put SEVERAL this size in some corn meal and peanut oil. Fish this size use to be not so uncommon
on Grenada..... but that day is long gone.

I think another topic on the board is discussing the main culprit that has caused that decline.

I was in 9th grade when i caught one that weighed 3lb 13oz and was 19inches long. i got this fish mounted but it wasn't until several years later that i actually realized how impressive of a fish it actually was. Congrats to the gentleman, truely a once in a lifetime catch!

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

That is indeed an impressive fish, and what everyone seems to be overloking is the fact that he did what you should do with such a catch. He weighed it measured it and released it. He is to be commended for this action!

I've got a buddy that caught one that was over 6lbs. He didn't know what it was so he ate it!

 I gotta call BS on that one!! Sorry, but that's a pound heavier than the world record and he didn't know what it was? Hard for me to believe.

I knew somebody would. It's the truth though. He was just learning to hunt and fish and had no idea what he was doing. He was just catching fish and cleaning and eating them. Caught it out of private lake that never gets fished.

I saw one that some democrats pulled out of Charlie Capps one day that I swear was close to the 5lb mark...and thats no BS'ing! I told him we needed to get some scales on it, and he said "oh no's sir...if its a big fish then they'll wanna take it and I wanna eat that big sukka"...it was huge! The biggest crappie I have ever seen and I have seen some nice one's. He was on the end of the pier by the old dead tree.

So you're saying that he caught this huge fish, weighed it, found out that it was 6 lbs, which is pretty damn big for any fish out of a pond, and didn't show it to anyone or try to find out what kinda fish it was? Just hard for me to believe.

You don't have to believe it, and I don't have any way to prove it, but here's the story.

My buddy had never hunted or fished but I got him interested and he went all in. Bought guns, bows, stands, blinds, rods, reels, boat.......

I ran into him one afternoon and knew that he had been fishing this pond the day before and asked him how he did. He said he had caught a few small fish and one that weighed 6 lbs. Knowing that the pond had held good small mouth in the past I asked if it was a bass. He said, "Yeah, I guess, but it was sort of funny looking." I had him describe it and he said it was a "silvery-green fish with lots of black spots, and a small mouth with real thin lips". I said, "Are you sure it weighed 6 lbs?" and he said, "Yeah! I bought a digital scale and weighed it." I asked him what he did with it and he said, "I cleaned it and ate." And then I told him the same thing you said. "Man, it sounds like you just ate a world record crappie!" I found him a picture of a crappie and he confirmed that that was what it was, and said the he sure would like to catch a lot more of them because it was a lot better eating than the bass!

Had all this come from anyone else I would have called bs on it, too, but if that guy ran into my office right now and told me my own butt was on fire, I'd stop drop and roll without even checking to see if he was right. He's that honest. Whether or not you choose to believe me is entirely up to you.

Well, with a story that good, it sounds a little too good to be made up. I just can't believe that anyone wouldn't know what a crappie looked like and that a 6 lb one needs to be showed to somebody. Bet he's kicking his ass over that now. :D

I saw a picture of an almost 6lber out of Grenada. It was shocked up and weighed and measured, then released.
