Local out-of-staters
I was going to a jam-up spot to turkey hunt the other morning. Perfect weather, should have been a great morning. When I drove up to the gate, I saw a truck already sitting there. I did a quick u-turn to leave and go somewhere else before it got daylight and saw the truck had an Arkansas license plate. So when does the Arkansas turkey season begin? It's hard enough to compete with local hunters for spots, much less out-of-staters too.

They will still be here, The bird population in Arkansas is terrible. You most likely have to deal with this all season. Had the same thing happen to me and partner last week on Tallahala WMA. We got there about an hour before we needed to and there was a truck already setting, made a u turn and headed to choice #2. Hey it happens- especially on the public lands. TT

I hunted Tallahala opening weekend on a draw. Heard one bird way off on the roost. Did you have any luck?thorn01 wrote:They will still be here, The bird population in Arkansas is terrible. We drew wed, thur and fri of last week. We hit it hard on wed, pedaled in on bikes, to great spot, didnt hear a bird, so we hit our place in vicksburg the rest of week. Talked to several folks on way out and noone heard a bird. TTcockandlock25 wrote:I hunted Tallahala opening weekend on a draw. Heard one bird way off on the roost. Re: Local out-of-staters
we cross the big ditch so we can hunt their ducks, and them likewise for our turkeys...
Re: Local out-of-staters
you would think that the early season draw hunts would stop this chit.
we need more of those to curtail this obvious abuse of our public lands.....it's lucky no one was hurt in a gun fight. or at least run over by a 10 speed.

Re: Local out-of-staters
There seems to be more hunters being drawn this year than in the past. i saw a few arkansas plates on each WMA i hunted (3). I think i kinda pissed one off when i flew by him on the bike bout 2 miles down the gated road. But i figured if i were in a boat in Arkansas he would do the same. J/k i did meet him and told him i was going to hunt where ever he wasnt. neither of us heard squat.

now you know to be a hip turkey hunter on a bike, it has to be a cruiser.....1 speed, baby!! it is the new rage - super wide handle bars, chromed out fenders, owl hooter instead of a bell/horn....gator wrote:or at least run over by a 10 speed.

Re: Local out-of-staters
absolutely - the seat HAS to be comfy, 'cause nothing else about the ride in and out will be!!tombstone wrote:banana seat???

thorn1 - i understand, if i tried that right now, i wouldn't be able to stay out of granny gear for long- i've ridden a modern cruiser once up a slight grade on the pavement, i couldn't imagine trying that in the woods, even if it was flat - lil bmx'er maybe, but not on a cruiser!
