Fellow poster cmmj63 and I caught several that looked about that size out of a farm pond on my place and released them about 20 years ago. Didn't know what they were for a few minutes there. Dam broke and was repaired but we haven't caught any like that since.

Then why doesn't the person that caught it get credit for catching the world record crappie? Not saying I don't believe you, I'm just asking.

i could be wrong but probably because he didn't catch it. When MDWFP or whomever is doing the studies shocks the fish up then they didn't really catch it. could be wrong, jmo

and THAT is a duck hunt.

I must've misread or missed the shocked up part. I just saw weighed and released. At least we all know there's a world record crappie in Grenada now. What part of the lake was it on Torch?

I see nothing dumb about this post. He damn sure wasn't gonna fillet and eat it. He took the measurements so he could get a replica mount. Also, the genetics of such a fish are still alive to potentially reproduce more big crappie. I don't think I could have turned the fish back but the fellow should be commended as hiballer said.

I'm with you! Fish hanging on the wall are cool and all but do me no good. Eat em or put em back in the gene pool. Ha! That reminded me of the commercial for the catch, photograph, and release movement several years ago where a guy is draggin a big bass out of the water, and the fish is yell, "CPR! CPR!"

A 6 lb crappie makes for two big thick tasty fillets, throw it back my butt it prob would not have even gotten measured till it went in the grease.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?
