Baby bottle issues!!

Postby BAY KINGFISHER » Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:19 pm

Yep, you know your at your wits end when your asking ducksouth advice about baby bottles!!!lmao Anyway, as some of you know we have newborn twin boys at our home (about two weeks home now after a month in NICU) The boys have used nothing but the bottles and nipples sent home from the hospital and now that the nipples are wearing out we have attempted to switch to the Avent bottles that we purchased in anticipation of their births. The problem lies in these damm bottles. The boys have a hard time getting anything out of the damm things if the cap is tight, and if you loosen the cap to help it flow the damm thing leaks!!! Have any of you got experience with Avent bottles. I own about thirty five of them and I cant seem to get them to work correctly. My wife and I are very frustrated at this point!! We are sleep deprived and ornery!! My Wife is currently at Walmart looking at options but after all the money spent on the avents I figured maybe one of our Ducksouth braintrust would have a solution or had this problem to....thanks in advance from very tired ery proud parents of twins!!!

We had to switch to DR. Browns the day we brought our lil dude home. They have a venting tube in the bottle. Try em out they worked pretty well for us. We played hell with the Avent, and NUKE (i think) bottles.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

My wife and I are expecting our first in less than two months. We are planning on using the Avent bottles, after she goes back to work, because she is going to breast feed. Have you checked the nipples to make sure the hole isn't messed up. Another option, may be to try one of the larger nipples. Keep me posted, because I don't want to use a bottle system that has problems.

I would never use a bottle other than Dr. Browns. You pay for what you get. We just gave away about 40 of them. They'll get less air in their bellies with them and will flow smoother.

We started out with those for my twin girls and switched to the Dr. Browns almost immediately...seems a long time ago now. Go get a few of the Dr. Browns ASAP and try them out.

We started having problems with the "flo" when our little ones started on bottles after being breast fed.
I ingeniously took a few of the plastic nipples and wallowed them out just a little bit with a tooth pick.
Be careful as you can get it too large pretty fast, but worked for us.

I would hate to not be able to use 35 new bottles. If you ruin a couple, Oh well. Cheaper than replacing
them all.

Sleep deprivation is a way of life with twins...do your best to get at least 4 continuous hours of sleep a night.

Hey been there done that I have a 8 month old and i think we have tried everything. The Dr. Brown is the way to go, they flow better and you can also get different size nipples as they get older you can get them with larger holes.

+1 on making the hole bigger. We had that problem as well. When you wash the bottles the nipples get hot and somewhat melt and they need to be opened back up. Worked for us. We bottle fed our first 2 and she breast fed the last 2 and it was a night and day difference. The breast fed babies slept better and had fewer problems. She'd also just put them in the bed with her and nobody really had to get up at all. Worked great for us. I know with twins that's a lot to do though.

i had a small issue like that with the Dr. Browns myself. I would open up the hole with an ice pick just before feedings, worked like a charm. Dr. Brown is definitly a good choice of bottle

+1. This will make your life alot easier. Good luck. I don't know that I could handle two newborns at the same time. One was tough enough.
