For the Group that went to Oklahoma???

Me, and some friends going to the same place yall went in OK. Any advice? Decoys? Blinds? I hope the weather turns out to be good(better than yall had anyway). I've never hunted Ok and since we are going to the same outfitter would love any advice or encouragement that could help us. Thanks a bunch.

You can expect some great hunting and one of the most honest and hard working outfitters iv'e ever met! Its not like hunting eastern birds so dont expect to do much running and gunning. A blind is a great idea! Decoys are not really used out there since you will be competing with flocks upward of 100 birds!

Honestly its great. I was heart set on doing a merriams hunt next year but after experiencing this we are all going back to Keith's.

You will need the blind. It will make a good setup if it is one you can pack it easy. I carried ours once or twice and didn't need it. But it is nice to have the option.

I would have liked a decoy Sunday morning, other than that, we never needed one. They said 99% of the time they don't use one.

You'll have a blast. Take extra shells!

Really really pay attention to what the guides say about the land and terrain. You may be hunting in a 400 acre cattle field but only 75 acres really matter. The rest will be wide open pasture. Keith and Montey (father and son) are great guys. Being out in the middle of no where with lots of game and good friends makes for the best vaction I've experienced in 10-12 years.

Also u can hunt all day so a backpack may be a good idea. I used my mossy oak breakup and it did pretty well. Please pattern ur gun as well.

Everything that has been said so far is right on! I will add to get a stool/chair with back support. As far as binds go, if you don't sit still they are probably a good thing. Cover is sparse, and leafy camo probably helps, still when I shot the cemetery bird I was 5 yards from any cover. Take as many calls as you can operate, and then pack a few more! You want to sound like a whole flock of birds if you can! And a good box call will often work wonders. A trigger stick is also a good piece of gear to bring. I wore natgear/bottomland/shadowbranch mostly. Stay aggressive with your calling and your mindset, but gear back your expectations on being able to move on birds, the cover just makes it tough. I will post a few more tidbits over the next few days, and the stories of how a few birds did, and didn't, die!

I have never used a decoy...I carried two out there, and still have never used a decoy. Did use a blind but only due rain really.

Oklahoma is subject to a lot of wind and you might be chasing your decoy more than using it. I've set out a decoy once on 9 trips to Keith's and didn't need it then. Main thing to do is listen to what he tells you. He has plenty of turkey seats there if you don't want to pack one. Enjoy the trip.
