MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 29, 2010 ? Ducks Unlimited is being recognized as the 2010 American Outdoor Organization of the Year by the “Legends of the Outdoors” National Hall of Fame. The announcement is a tribute to DU volunteers, members and supporters who have earned this award by making wetlands conservation a priority since 1937.
“We are very grateful for this award from the ‘Legends of the Outdoors’ National Hall of Fame, as it recognizes DU’s unwavering commitment to wetlands conservation and our valuable natural resources,” said Randy Graves, DU’s chief executive officer. “To be in the company of some of the finest outdoor organizations in the country is an honor.”
The “Legends of the Outdoors” National Hall of Fame recognizes outdoor organizations, sportsmen and sportswomen who have played an integral role in setting the standards and guidelines for the rest of the outdoor world to follow.
Garry Mason, founder and chief executive officer of the “Legends of the Outdoors” National Hall of Fame, said it was an honor to reward DU for its commitment to conserve and restore North America’s wetlands and associated habitats.
The presentation of the 2010 American Outdoor Organization of the Year award will take place during the 9th annual “Legends of the Outdoors” National Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Land and Wildlife Expo in Nashville, Tenn., Aug. 14, 2010.
Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow, and forever.
