serial number lookup for old 1911
I got my hands on an old colt 1911, and want to look up the serial number to see when it was made. Anybody got a good website to do this?

if you can't figure it out there, call colt customer service and they will give you the mfg. date for free.

Ha ha. I'm sure you would. Unfortunately, its not mine. It belonged to my girlfriends granddad, and when he died twenty something years ago, her. Aunt claimed it and they just got it back a couple of weeks ago. It's in pretty bad shape, but can still be fixed up. Mainly needs re-blueing and a new barrel.

I would talk to a good gunsmith. It may be worth more as is than if you restore it. But, if you don't want to sell it then you might want to get it cleaned up

I would not touch that thing without talking to someone who is knowledgable about collectable Colts.
There will be a day....
Re: serial number lookup for old 1911
When my grandfather passed away back in the late 90's, I received his Colt 1911A1 .45. This gun is in immaculate condition and I have only shot it 10-15 times. I have researched the serial number per the site listed above and it appears as manufactured in 1912 and was one of 1,000 made. Is this correct? The serial number is: 1153362
Unfortunately, since I did not know he even had the gun, I never got it's history. I will say it is most likely a gun that was handed-down to him.

Re: serial number lookup for old 1911
ducter, the one I'm talking about has a 339644 serial number, and I'm seeing it was made in 1918 for that serial number range. As I said before, this is not my pistol, but I talked to Tim Roberson in shelby the other day, and he said the same thingduckter wrote:Where are my 1911 fans? Need assistance on post above.
