Re: Unknown grass....
I'll take better pictures this weekend. I will be out there working this weekend. Could it be a weird flavor of sprangletop?
I really appreciate and I feel better about not being able to ID it.
Stay tuned, more pics this weekend.

Bad form! How dare you enlist the services of a professional botanist and interfere with the work of board certified duck south know-it-alls!cockandlock25 wrote:I sent the pics to a post-doc botanist I work with. He can identify any plant known to man and said he needed to see better pics of the inflorescence to be sure which panicum it is. I was just passing along the info. This man is a plant guru and does work all over the world so I took his word for it.

Re: Unknown grass....
Exactly, would you believe someone that does work all over the world, or those of us who specialize in the Duck South area?

I thought the Deer forum was the only place you could call a man out by name and drag him into stuff like that!DanP wrote:http://www.ars.usda.gov/pandp/people/people.htm?personid=717

Looks like we are diving into the same pool. Dr. Bryson does mucho work with the guy I asked too. You may know Victor Maddox as well. And Victor is not foreign, he just does some research in other parts of the world other than the SoutheastDanP wrote:Panicum rigidulum - redtop panicgrass

Re: Unknown grass....
I don't care where the information comes from I just wanted to know. Its not that I can do anything about it this year, but if it was no good for ducks I could do something about it next year. It seems as though I might be OK with it.DanP wrote:Maybe pond will take it easy on him![]()
Once again, I appreciate all the help.
Thanks,

Re: Unknown grass....
Rob,
No matter what kind of grass it is, barring bermuda or something like that, it's hard to go wrong for ducks.
The wild millets, panic grasses, signalgrass, sprangletop, foxtail, crabgrass, etc. are all good for ducks.
