F'in Oxford . . .

Postby Beaudog1 » Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:34 am

My power has been going out intermittently for the last week or so, and today it's been out for several hours. Pissed off (I'm in a brand new house and neighborhood), I called North East MS Electric Power. After a good wait, I finally got a sure fire rocket scientist on the phone. After explaining my situation, I was told that the power problems in my area are being caused "by a pretty serious squirrel problem....". Squirrels? Is this guy f'ing with me?? I'm a young guy and know as much about electricity as I do brain surgery, but squirrels? Is this a common problem? Just seeing if I'm getting screwed with or not, as I sit here and watch my milk spoil and my beer return to the hot state that I bought it in (f'ing Oxford)....

not saying that's your case, but in Lafayette, LA back on the 15th they had 1000 customers without power after a bird caused an electrical flash and took out 3 power lines.

I didn't have electrical problems but recently had phone and dsl problems at my office. They couldn't figure it out and finally several technicians worked for several hours and brought the wiring in to show us where squirrels had eat into them. They replaced the wires and i haven't had a problem since. It happened about 6 weeks ago. So, I guess it could be the truth....but if the squirrels chewed into the electrical wires.......you can have fried squirrel for dinner.

Squirrels cause a TON of problems, they run across the lines and that is not a problem usually, only when they ground themselves. There is something they can put up where it will stop them from doing it though, just cant remember what it is called.

Them squirrells will F up a transformer. They won't live to bark about it, but they can cause problems. But I'm sure the
guy was probably just giving you that as an excuse to get you off the phone with him. Shouldn't take them that long
to fix the problem if they were at all interested in it.

Glad to know it's a "real" problem. Hell, the guy could've told me the flux capacitator was acting up and I would've bought it, but the squirrel excuse threw me for a loop. Since the fridge is out (no cold beer), and the cold waters out (no hot shower), and the TV and internet are out, I guess I'll just sit on my porch with a .22 and help NE Electric with this problem.... Squirrels though, really? At least make up something technical (ie- "mechanical varmint infiltration of the switchboard processor")

Bwahahaha . . . gotta be him!! I bet that ninja is sending his squirrel army up my power lines so he has something to fix. Oh wait, something to say he'll fix, until he opens another Wild Irish Rose bottle and forgets.
