I was just talking to Tom Hamilton this morning. Mr. Tom says for me to tell Karen, Mickey and EVERYONE on MSDucks that they are not only very welcome to participate in any club training days or events, they are personally invited by him and the officers to come. Tom says he would love to see all of you, as he knows very well that we all can learn a lot from each other's games and training methods.

Peace out!

Just saying honoring is a big part. Not saying you should not participate in the trial or training. If you do not believe honoring is important, this is not for you. As for real hunting situation, I should have worded it this way, "Simulated hunting".

My American lab is still learning to honor consistently. Her drive to retrieve overwhelms her at times, participating in the training has made her a better companion and duck dog. Hopefully one day I will be able to try my hand at the British trial, but at this time I understand my dog’s limitations. I joined the club to improve my dog and my handling ability and everyone is welcome.

Like I said Mark, hope you will enter the next trial.

Well, Id like to say I went to the trial and had a great time watching the dogs and spending time with good folks. Heck anytime there is dogs, ducks, and gun powder sounds fun to me. I would say that on the very first shot flyer 2 dogs broke and another creeped out about six feet from the line, not what I really anticipated seeing with all the emphasis being placed on steadyness. Also, I didnt understand how the handler's choice was given to one of the guys whos dog probably broke the most. Sure he made a great retreive down the side of the levee, but he didnt show much control at the line. One thing I missed seeing was a dog truely handle. I saw some attempts at handling followed by much scalloping and very little control. All in all, I had a good experience hanging out with the guys, eating some good food, and enjoying a good day outdoors. Who knows, if I have Dee in town for the next one I may have to run as well. I dont want Allen and Mark to have all the fun!!

No, I am just passing on the trial results. Anyone is welcome to apply for entry. 16 dogs is the limit, if there are more that apply, every entry goes in to a drawing. First 16 out participate and there are some alternates. I have no stake in the dogs that participated. I have an American lab and yes her demeanor is different from a British lab. Not saying one is superior to the other and yes all dogs break. The only way to gauge your dog’s ability is to work with other dogs and training philosophies. Hope to see you next time, I would love to see your chessie work.

No backpedaling, I was responding to Mark's Chinese fire drill comment. At no time was the trial a Chinese fire drill. Mark has attended our training days and we welcome him. I just disagree with his comment. Once again, we had openings for this past trial and we welcome those who have commented on the post to participate in the next one.

sorry homie, maybe you didn't intend to, but the above statement sounded elitist. As if you did not believe "certain people" should be involved. Maybe not what u meant, but that's how it sounded. And no, you will not see me at the line for one of those competitions, but would love the training experience!

Thanks Sonya and Mark. I really am not interested in actually running the real trail, but just training it for steadiness. I would love to do it before Lower Al hunt is possible and I am willing to pay for several shot flyers. So whoever that is out their saying it is not good for me to do this they do not have to worry that I will take up any space on the trial list.

Karen, no one stated you should not attend our trial or training days. When I responded to Mark's comment about the trial being a chinese fire drill I was not clear. We would love to have you come to our training or trial. I know you are friends with Shane Corr and he would love to see you.

In a British trial a dog is immediately eliminated when they break. The dog continues participating in the trial, but they cannot be considered as a winner or place. I just simply did not communicate that when I quickly respond to Mark.

I hope this clears everything up.

MP thanks, I just want to train this way only for steadiness. My dog tends to break on honor or sometime on very close birds. I am getting ready to run Master and I need her to see shot flyers.
By the way, who are you, and yes my husband and I are friends with Shane and I would like to see him again also.

Karen, my name is Matt Perkins and you responded to another post concerning our club and Shane's name was listed as the secretary. You asked if he still had pepper and I responded yes. You told me to say hello to him.

There is allot of honoring during our training and this has helped my lab greatly. But as you stated, if a bird falls close or she has been waiting a long time for her turn, she will break at times.

She is a great duck dog with a good nose. I just keep working on the steadiness.

When I get a chance to try this I am going to have a collar on her and I hope she breaks. I have tried everything in training to get her to break and whe won't move. I am hoping that moving with a line up of dogs with shot flyers will do it. Hope to meet you soon
