Do all labs shiver? My dog shivers before she even gets wet!
Re: Hunting Dog
My lab shivers a soon as we get to hunting is why i ask, even before she gets wet, and of course after she gets wet she shivers even more, just checking to see if thats normal. She wears a vest and stays dry until the first duck hits the water. Is that normal?
Re: Hunting Dog
Sounds like she may just be excited, happy to be there!

So many ducks, so little time....

Probably just excited. Mine does the same thing, though it's gotten a little better with age & experience. He did it during teal season this year so you know it's not the weather then!
Re: Hunting Dog
Mine has done it on opening day of dove season before . So I'd say they really like it
Re: Hunting Dog
Check your dog food's protein and fat content - Pro Plan is 29% protein and 17%fat content - compare your rates with that to see what kinda 'fuel' she's getting.jctrapper wrote:Do all labs shiver? My dog shivers before she even gets wet!

Re: Hunting Dog
It's just adrenaline pumping and anticipation. My does it too as soon as we get set up and she hears the ducks coming. She shakes like crazy and grunts until she gets to pick up that first duck, then she is fine and calmer.

Mine starts whining and shaking the moment he sees me loading up the decoys. He's kinda pissed at me right now, cause I went the other morning and didn't take him with me. Been ignoring me the last two days, slept on the floor on my wife's side of the bed the last two nights.

Re: Hunting Dog
My dog did the same thing for the first 4 years....Now she's six and may whimper a little bit but she quit the shivering unless she's actually cold. She would shake uncontrollably without a drop of water on her. Experience and age usually settles dogs.
