I hunted all day today except a two hr lunch break. Down south of woodville. A few deer were seen around mid morning but other than that the woods were super still and no one (7 people) saw a deer this afternoon. Bad enough for me to drive back to Jackson.

Take that for what it's worth.

Something I never knew until I moved north: the woods get REAL quiet when it snows. In my experience, hunting in the snow, unless you're somewhere it snows very frequently, isn't the best time to catch deer moving. If they're not used to the white stuff, they button up and try to make as little commotion as possible.
It's a bloody mary morning...

That makes sense.

I hunted Sunday afternoon, in the middle of the snow/sleet/freezing rain mix with winds gusting to 23 mph and saw 14 deer between 4 o'clock and dark, including 3 bucks!! They are NOT scared of the snow/weather, they are WILD animals and regardless of how often or rarely they see a certain type of weather, they were created and designed to adapt to the conditions. They dont freak out nearly as much over snow as we Southerners do thats for sure!! lol

Hunted Monday morning and the deer were moving, and had been moving for a while judging by all the fresh tracks in the snow. But, I was also hunting next to standing corn... they had an easy, high carb food source that I'm sure they felt they needed. After 7:45, they shut down.
All goes back to energy expended versus energy gained. Browsing on native vegetation might burn more calories than laying up, but eating standing corn (or LawDawg's corn pile) might be worth it
