looks like some pink slips will be issued to "make room" for the new commits.

I thought these kids were at college for an education? Here's some education for you. Life's not fair. When you get out in the real world, guess what.... you're expendable. If you're slacking on the job and can't cut it, you get canned. If the boss finds somebody else that can do you're job better for the same price, guess what? I don't know this for fact because I've never delt with it, but I've been told that nobody signes a 4 year scholarship. These scholarships are year to year and the athletes are reevaluated every year before scholarships are renewed. I'm sorry, but this isn't city league sports where everybody gets a trophy, and nobody gets cut. Sometimes you just aren't good enough.

eSJay,
Webbie is trying to figure out how this make the Tards classy. To sign a kid and then send him packing without the promised education.
I can hear it now. Come on Paul, it makes us trustworthy Paul, don't you think this is classy Paul, I gotta get back to my ice delivery Paul.
Kicking the dirt as he walks back to the ice truck, he mumbles "they cheated"

Re: oversigning
Auburn took a different approach. "The Family" had a method of keeping potentially ineligible players on the roster so they didn't have to worry about oversigning: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/06/sport ... ml?_r=1&hp

Re: oversigning
A couple of quick points. Ole Miss has more than the indicated 15 scholarships available to award. So, whoever put this together needs to research their research. And, even more importantly, whenever anyone can point out one single player signed by Nutt at Ole Miss who did not receive a scholarship as promised, then please do so ---- and then we can discuss.
Thanks to Auburn's whining, the total number of players that can be listed as "signed" has been reduced, regardless of how many have actually been promised scholarships, are simply going to be "placed" at a JUCO (because they are likely not going to qualify), are going to walk-on, or are going to "greyshirt" (pay their own way for the first fall semester and then join the team on scholarship beginning in the next year's signing class).
There is really no need to embarass these kids by publicly stating which have been actually promised a scholarship, which ones will have to go the JUCO route, and which ones have agreed to walk-on or "greyshirt". That really should be between the school and the student-athlete (so long as there is compliance with NCAA rules re scholarship limits). So, why not list them all as "signed" on signing day and let them enjoy their moment. Exactly who is that going to hurt? But, noooooooooo --- since some are hell bent on offering "solutions" in search of a problem, the privacy rights of these student-athletes are apparently less important than the rights of nosy busy body jock sniffers (who apparently have no business of their own to tend to).
This same topic was addressed in another previous thread in this forum this past year (I think back in the spring/early summer). And at that time, I pointed out that there was not a single player that anyone could identity who failed to receive a scholarship as promised by Nutt at Ole Miss. And I contend that nothing in that regard has changed since then, nor will it as a result of this year's signing class. I've had my issues with Nutt's coaching since he became the head coach of Ole Miss, but breaking promises to student-athletes has not been one of them.
So, to the "hee haw clothes line gossip girls", I welcome any evidence to the contrary. Please post it up girls. Inquiring minds gotta know.

Re: oversigning
ain't po but here's my 2 cents... ya'll just won a NC, that in itself will make kids wanna come play for AU. he's the ONLY RB we are recruiting and he knows that. i think ya'll will end up getting him in the end but would be perty dang happy if we do pick him up. trey mason jermaine whitehead and nick brassel are the last 3 pieces. we'll see how it all shakes out.eSJay wrote:Makes perfect sense to me Po. Re: oversigning
Tre told the coaches this AM. There's no upside to the winner talking, I guess, but the losing school may be out there telling recruits "no Tre isn't coming so we really need you."
He made it public this afternoon.
