Postby D1 » Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:11 pm

went to the livestock auction today and pigs went for an average of .60-.70 a lb and piggletts went about 30.00 on average

then the goats came in and the first two billies(brush goats) went for 71.00 each

thats when it was time for Bruce to leave :)

the chickens in the parking lot were high 13.00 for hens and 9.00 for a roo

rabbits 8-12 weeks old were 8.00

Beef will not be for dinner.

Drought in China! Prices for any grain commodity is going to be going up, up, up!

I was able to see the paint horses and cows over the weekend. Forgot how much I enjoy the Dixie!

wheat over 9.00 a bu. beans 14.00 and no telling where cotton will wind up or the others. it all spells for higher prices for food and clothing and i'm bettin' much higher prices for fertilizer and inputs for farmers. when those prices go up for farmers someone is on the other side to take it away from them. it ain't all grapes. i tip my hat to farmers. i farmed all my life and you couldn't run fast enough to get me back into it now. city people have no idea what it costs to make a crop.

ha! i'm always amazed when i hear people who have no freakin' clue about where their food comes from. especially the "bleeding hearts" that think that hunting is cruel, but because it is packaged already, buying "grocery store" meat is humane and no animals were harmed in the making...it just magically appears in the store that way...

*i grew up on a farm and am in the industry* my quote above was sarcasm in the purest sense

no need. hope your son, and all cotton farmers for that matter, have a banner year...we need it badly! i grew up on cotton and it pains me greatly to see its demise on the American farm.

Wish I had the coin a few years ago when everyone was having fire sales on all that new cotton equipment...especially DB Griffins sale. I would have stuck them in the barn and held on to them. I called this with a customer of mine when it started happening who had moved from cotton to grain production...he took the bet...leased out his sandy ground, and bought up some new pickers and equipment and discount prices and stuck them back. We'll see how it goes. This situation in Egypt isnt hurting it either. One of the few times in my life I called something and it happened correctly...just didnt have the rent money to jump...story of my life.
