Sweet Corn-vegetable guys

Postby greenheadgrimreaper » Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:45 pm

If you could have ONE sweet corn variety what would it be? Silver Queen is out. I planted it last year I'm wanting to go with a se or sh2 variety. Smart booty comments are welcome.

obsession (sp?) fine as it gets. I bet you can't eat just one ear. Good luck on finding the seed though. You have to order it and order it early.

I like Merit and Silver Queen. Merit will hold longer if pulling ears has to be delayed. The ultra sweet varieties is just too sweet for me. I like Merit on the cob and Silver Queen when you are doing fried or cream corn.

More than likely I am going to go with an se variety. They're not super sweet, but are alot sweeter than the su varieties like Silver Queen and Merit. I grew silver queen last year and have always liked it for that old time corn taste, but I want to try something else that is a little sweeter.

Where can I get this Holly Ridge from?

I ate some of the best corn last year, farmer said very hard to find the seed, but he called it peaches and cream ( this might be the farmer slang name ) but if you can find it is well worth the price.

peaches and cream was what the first bi-colored sweet corn was called. now there are several bi-colored brands out. if you can find the "old" peaches and cream it is very good as is just about any of the bi-colored ones. sweet g-90 is one of them. back in the 60's field corn was good.

Do you know why it is so hard to get? I know that they sell it per seed not per pound the way we get it.
