So.......

Who got caught hunting over, I mean who killed a turkey this morning?

I never heard the first gobble.

Dirt napped this loudmouth 2 yr old at 6:14am. He pitched down at 6:10 and came to me on a string. He gobbled in my face at 30 yds and I let him have it. He gobbled 25-30 times on the limb and 3 times on the ground. I'm still smiling...

Located a gobbler yesterday morning...he gobbled good on the limb and on the ground...he stays in a strip of hardwoods about 400 yds long and 250 yds. wide next to a pipeline ROW...set up on him this morning in a green patch on the ROW...he was double gobbling this morning....got him to answer a series of yelps and he went silent....15 minutes later he showed up at the green patch and got nervous when he didn't see a hen...my wife got in a hurry and clean missed him at 35 steps, didn't cut a feather....went to the other side of the lease this PM and called up a longbeard and 7 hens....my wife rolled him at 30 steps...1 3/16" spurs and 10 1/2" beard .....just got him in the frige...will try to post pics later

Millie and I went to a spot a half mile from where she killed the bird yesterday afternoon...didn't hear anything but decided to set up on a green patch close by where we've killed turkeys before...while we we getting blinded in, Millie told me she thought she heard a turkey gobble...a few minutes after we set up, I ran a series of yelps on the Stribling box call and 30 seconds later a hen sailed into the patch to our left and landed out of sight...a few minutes later I yelped on the box to try to get the hen to reply....5 minutes later the gobbler pitched in and landed to our right and began to walk towards the hen ...when he passed by directly in front of us, Millie rolled him at 28 step....7/8" spurs and 8 3/4" beard...she will post pictures of both birds later today...chip

Had big flock on the field in front of us this morning. We were on them in the woods but they pitched out onto the field. Lots of hen and jake talk on the limb but the only gobbling was clear across the bottom. 36 hens, 6 jakes and a really good longbeard. I believe that he's done this before. Didn't gobble one time but strutted and drummed all morning long. Had 4 jakes surrounding him like a posse. I don't know if I could've shot him if he had come in. Never stuck his head up that it wasn't surrounded by jakes. Blackwater security couldn't have protected him better. Gonna be fun huntin him!

I had a very special hunt on the MS River. My Dad, my five year old son, and I were able to kill a nice bird at 6AM. He hammered on the limb along with three of his buddies for twenty minutes. Finally he flew at least 150 yards and landed in the middle of the road behind us. I yelped a couple of times and he strutted right into our set-up. I still cant believe we were able to get one with a five year old in the blind with us in wide open woods. Also, so much for the predictions that the river clubs will be way down this year. Most everybody that hunted heard at least 4-6 birds on the limb, and we saw over 40-50 birds riding around on Friday. I hope everybody else had a good opening weekend.

I know your little man was fired up... as was your dad. Special memory for all of you..

I may need to slip up to washington county if they are gobbling like that..
Why is my mouth so dry this morning, when I drank so much last night?

I had one firing off for about an hour and half, finally got him to cross the creek and come in to about 60yds only to hang up and fly off...

That was the first gobbler I successfully called in myself and even though i don't have a bird in hand "yet" It was an awesome experience. Can't wait to get back on him next weekend.

I was amongst 4-5 gobbling birds Saturday morning, flew down 75 yds in front of me and did not take one step. They gobbled 10 minutes until hens pitched down on top of them... then... it was over. Did have a good chance to close the deal, got caught wiht my pants down and couldn't swing on him. Instead of taking the chance and spooking birds, I decided at 10am to see if the fish were biting. Holy smokes were they. I tore the white perch up both Sat and Sun... I had 20 over 2lbs. I didn't score on any birds but my thumbs are torn up....

Killed this 2 year old opening morning. he's legs were slick. no spurs. gobbled good on the limb, and a 6-8 times on the ground, probably would have gobbled his head off. but he was only the ground about 5 min before i dusted him with the old single shot ten ga.
