chuckars (pheasants)

Postby D1 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 10:59 am

do any of yall use them for training?

if so how much do you pay for them?

I am trying to see if they will pay for themselves if I take a shot at raising them.

thanks
Thanks

limited on space,I cant raise enough ducks to pay for them selves in the space I have.

Im not talking about supplying thousands of birds, just a few for training and still have enough for me to eat a few
Thanks

The crazy man in Gulfport, when he has them, sells chukkars for $6 each and pheasants for $10-15. Of course, he is totally out right now.
So many ducks, so little time....

If you raise pheasants they will sell. Very few folks in our area have them, especially when we need them. Let me know if you decide to give it a whirl.

Every year, before the Grand(s) and especially a month or two before the Master National, the cell phones around here melt down from folks looking for pheasants. And if you have a steady source, never give it up, or the next time you go to get a few, some "Training Group" will have purchased every bird your supplier had the day before you showed back up. Or, they will say "I am here to pick up So and So's birds, and split with those you have reserved. Its the circle of life, sort of.

I am in the process of setting up a bird pen and got to wondering just how many people in MS, AL, and west TN would be interested in pheasants. Its their hatching season and chicks are readily available. Was thinking of buying some and trying to raise them to flyer size. I've raised ducks before and quail might be time to try something new.

Put me on your buyer list. Dont think you would have to worry about feeding them anymore once they get to flyer stage. Lots of demand for them and supply is limited in this area.

Places you can go to that will help you with your Pheasant growing and or search for Pheasants, Chukars etc.
Mississippi Game Bird Growers Association or go on this link and contact some of the folks on it.
Also Mississippi State is involved via Ag Ext office.
