ASA approved softball bat......

Postby grnhed » Tue Mar 22, 2011 7:19 am

I am ordering a new slow pitch softball bat in the next couple of days. It has to be ASA approved for 2011.

I am looking at the Miken Freak DST either balanced or maxload. It comes in 34/26-28. Recommendations? I am not a swing for the fence on every pitch type of hitter. Thoughts or suggestions?

I am also looking at picking up some Decker Big Shark softballs. We have to have .44 core and .375 compression. Any one know of a softball that is hotter than that?

Thanks..

44 core is like hitting a rolled up sock. Last time I looked at sharks they were expensive....but I've been out of the game
for a few years now.

I would go with the 28oz, unless your gonna be playing tournaments alot where you are playing all day long then you may want to consider a lighter bat. If you are not a power hitter go with the balanced it will be easier to control to pick your spots. If you want to check out some reviews on bats go to softballfans.com they have a good bat review section. I would definetly go with worth or miken. There really is not much difference in your top ASA bats just because of the regulations.

.44 is like a rolled up sock! Most softballs cost about the same for anything halfway decent, but the Sharks seem to come off the bat hotter than a Worth gold dot, etc....

Thanks for the input. Thats kind of what I was thinking with the bat as well. I may go down to 27 and split the difference...

Rule 3 Section 3E [3]: A yellow cover red stitch 12” ball with as follows:
Size: at least 11.875 in.; Weight: at least 6.250 oz.; COR: .520 max; Compression:
300.0 lbs max and Dynamic Stiffness: 5500.0 lbs max.
Comments: Allows for an additional 12” ball for the Slow Pitch Classification of play
that is less temperature sensitive, reduces batted ball speed, and increases player
reaction time.

From what I understand from ASA ump meeting that is a change in balls for championish play in tourneys for the state of MS...its goan be a 52 core 300 compression max ball ...now league and regular tourney ball may not reguire this but it will be in championship play this yr...from what they say you can bring what ya want cause its gona take a man to jack this ball....lol

I wish ours would, but it wont switch anytime soon. We had several guys in the last couple of years get hurt. Last year alone several busted lips, a broken nose and one guy got a couple of teeth knocked out and a cracked jaw.....

I'll tell ya right now that the majority of the guys that are playing mens softbal could not play baseball these days...now there are the exceptions but most cant thats why they are playing softball cause they love the sport of the diamond just handle the small ball side of the diamond now.... also the mens divisions are loosing players as they get older and have kids that play base ball and girls fastpitch (which by the way is the fastest growing sport in the country )

Let me know a price and exactly what you want and I can find it. I am on softballfans and will look for you. I would go with 27 over 28 gives more control. I am partial to worth bats but that's just me. If you think hitting 44 core are socks that are changing the ball standards every year to compensate the shaved bats. I will post a link to the ms softball board if you guys are interested in locals who play.

In my opinion worth has put out the best bats over the past few years, but all mine are usssa. I do have an original freak that is asa approved and it is hot but not as hot as my resmondo titan.

Any USSSA bat will be hands down a lot hotter than any ASA bat...
