alright relax, I know not all snakes mean to do harm. Just have an irrational fear I guess. Had a pit viper (think rattlesnake without the rattle) trying to cozy up to me during the night last time I was overseas.

I killed a 3 1/2 ft copperhead a couple of years ago and made a skin mount out of him. You are doing almost exactly what I did. It's probably not the best way to go about it but mine turned out good. I skinned him, stretched him out and tacked him down on some cardboard. Then I coated the underside of the skin with salt and let it sit for about a week. Bought me a 1"x4" cedar board, cut it to about 4 1/2 ft, and stained it with a dark, cherry color stain (I think that's the color). Then I stretched the skin out centered on the board and tacked it down with small carpet tacks about 1" apart. After it was tacked down, I coated it thoroughly with a polyurethane spray to protect it and give it a good glossy shine. Then I went to Gun Dog Supply and engraved a brass, dog collar tag with where I killed it and the date. I tacked that down below the skin on the board. It's hanging above the doorframe going into my kitchen right now. It's been about 3 years and it still looks great. Be very careful with handling the skin after it dries because the scales will flake off!

do you leave the 'belly skin' on the mount, or trim it away?

Did you know....

that it is only LEGAL to kill a POISONOUS snake if it is on YOUR PROPERTY and you feel you are IN DANGER.

Now, don't you feel like a scumbag.

It is illegal to kill a snake of any kind in Tennessee because they are considered a non-game species with no open season. Good to know what the Mississippi law is though, Rob.

so if you're hunting a WMA and you kill a poisonous snake that you feel is threatening your health/life/safety, then you've broken the law?

You did say you killed it in the road to your house didn't you. Techinally you pay county taxes on that road so it is yours. Your county, Your state and your country. Too many ignorant laws. Somebody spent alot of time and our money to come up with that. Next it will be snake killing season and he will have to have a least 15 rattlers or be at least 2 foot long. :!:

I respect laws, especially relating to hunting, but that one is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. If someone harassed me for "illegally" killing a POISONOUS snake, I would gladly pay the fine with a smerky grin on my face. The fact that I could tell my local game wardens exactly when and where to catch some deer poachers I have seen for the last 3 years that they have NOT caught is ridiculous. Still, they would give an honest, good person who obeys all the game laws (except this snake one) a ticket for killing a stupid snake? I hope they don't actually enforce this dumb law. I'm not directing this toward you Wingman, just a general comment. Just my opinion though, and my copperhead mount still looks great on my wall!

it is legal to possess up to 4 of them is that correct??? :D Clarify it for me. Can you kill 4 on your property? (Assuming you were in danger. That is kind of subjective with no witnesses right??)

So in your opinion, a king snake is the only snake worth having?

I am guessing if I say "yes" then that will be an incorrect answer.

what about a non-poisonous snake..........say a 6 ft chicken snake coiled up in your hen house?

now personally, If I thought I could catch him, I might try to relocate him....MIGHT!

though, he might look good tacked to a 6 ft piece of barn wood too
