looking for a new tv

I just got a new house and want to hang one on the porch, outside. Are yall using regulat tv's for that or some kind of outdoor tv? I guess i could build a cabinet or something for it. Thoughts?

It's going to be in a pretty dark living room.
I am leaning towards plasma, 46 - 50in, 1080p, ??????Hz but there are so many choices now, it's crazy.
DLP, LCD, Plasma, LCD-LED, it's enought to make a man crazy.
Leaning towards an internet ready Samsung or LG.
I don't know if i can convince the wife, but this LG Infinia is sweet.

I have a samsung 46" led lcd and imo thats the best pic quality i have found and the 3d stuff is jst not worth the price being that you have to wear the goofy glasses wth them. I also have a 37" lg at i have had for about 5yrs and it has a good pic quality for a 720p but if i had to replace it today it would be with a samsung.

So I'm out there living life on the edge, as a 2 yr old mind you, and you ladies are wanting TV's. WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!?!?!?

The TV’s designed for outdoors are pretty expensive. Granted, mine has only been installed for a year so I can’t really speak about long term performance.
I don’t really see the need to spend the extra money on the outdoor TV if it’s going to be protected from the elements such as direct sunlight or driving rain. Case in point, Hunter has had no problems in 3 years. They do make covers for them & I’ve intended on getting one, but never have. Mine came from Cowboy Malony’s here in the metro.

The outdoor tv's are crazy high...........like $3000 minimum with one of any size to it.

I have Samsungs, Sony, Vizio and Panasonic LCD tvs and 2 Samsung LED tv's. We have Toshiba in the club house at the hunting club. I'd go with LED over Plasma no doubt about it. I would then rate them Samsung first, Sony Second, and Toshiba third.

Also of interest.......cable, nor directv or dish transmit better than 780p with 60Hz. It'll say 1080i on the boxes and such but is really only 780p. So, the only time you'll truly get the 1080i or p picture with 120 or 240Hz is going to be when you are watching a Blue Ray. With that said, go ahead and get a 1080i/p but don't let the 60, 120, 240 hz point you in any direction. I have also found the tvs at best buy have significantly better quality than the ones from WalMart.

If you'll look on your setting, tv's have a "retail store mode" that makes them more vibrant and "bright". I keep mine on it.

Also, a 1080 looks more clear than a 720 any way you slice it. The cable companies may not broadcast higher than 720, but I have both and you can tell the difference. I have a Phillips with the ambilight on it(it was on sale) and I have been pleased.

+1 for a Samsung. I've had a Samsung Plasma for about 5-6 years and have never had any kind of trouble out of it. The only way to make the TV any better would be to just get a bigger TV so I can enjoy it just that much more.

I bought a big-booty Samsung 1080p wallhanger 2 yrs ago and couldn't be happier. It's the best picture quality I could find.
