Forrest Moore / Cohen Suit

Postby SWAG » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:26 pm

Looks like more drama has come up as Goforth backs Moore's statement about extra hours of practice in the Fall. Wonder if there is any real teeth to this suit or just sour grapes?
Are we gonna get wet?

Sour grapes. I remember Goforth not getting the playing time that he thought he deserved.

I was on campus Yestetday.. talked with a guy in the ath. Dept... He said the rumor floating around up there was even more players were going to come forward about the falsified time sheets. And he said in the event Cohen is found guilty of practicing too long.. he will be forced to resign.. i couldn't believe what he was saying..

Jarrod Parks told the CL this morning that State and Cohen had followed all rules by the book while he was there. I'll take Jarrod's word over Moore and Goforth.

Think about it.......practicing 40-45 hrs a week. That's your everyday full time job plus taking 15 hours a semester.......doesn't add up.

All of that crap they are whining about goes on everywhere. We did a TON of extra stuff early and late, on our off days, etc. The only stipulation was that a coach couldn't be there. I think Moore is a whiny little biatch, and Goforth, who duck hunts some and I thought was pretty cool is right there with him. I think Cohen will come out of this ok, I hope...

Hasn't been in the news yet but supposedly Ryan Powers is jumping on the bandwagon too. He's currently at Saint Leo University. He couldn't cut it at state and was let go. This looks like a revenge deal with ex-players that couldn't cut it under Cohen. I have no doubts that the 20 hr rule wasn't followed to a T, but for you to say that you are doing baseball 40-45 hours a week, plus going to classes and playing up to 5 games a week. I'm going to have to call BS.

40 hrs (or whatever these kids are saying) is hard to figure...........BUT there ain't a program in the country, from water pollo at some D2 school to the highest level of football/baseball/basketball at a D1 school that don't "bend" that rule to some degree.

you know that (or should) going in............and, if you get there and can't handle the heat, be man (or woman, whichever the case and sport) and go elsewhere. but, above all, keep your "@#$%#" mouth shut........

these guys are puzzies, nothing more, nothing less.

not a state fan but able to smell chickenchit from a mile away regards, gator

Cohen just got a raise and contract extension. The AD was quoted as saying he was proud of him "instilling toughness" in the players -- seemed like a shot across the bow to these pansies to me.

I can understand a student trainer having those hours but not the players. Now if a player decides to practice extra thats on him or her.

talked to someone 2-3 weeks ago about this situation that I believe has as much knowledge as you need...and Cohen is guilty....PERIOD, and he deserves to lose his job. HOWEVER, the most likely direction this is headed is in the direction of settlement (hush money). If the Moore family wants Cohen's job, he is gone. If they want money, Cohen will likely dodge the bullet.

I don't see Cohen losing his job over this, regardless of how it shakes down. Even if "guilty", these are probably no more than minor, secondary NCAA rules violations. Thus, if MSU's athletics department is satisfied with Cohen's actions, then such is all that really matters with respect to him keeping his job. As a plaintiff in a civil suit, the former player (Moore) has no legal standing or right to demand that Cohen be fired as a form of damages or requested relief. All Moore can get in the form of damages from the suit, whether it settles or he prevalis at trial , is money damages. And while this appears to be a case with potential liability, I don't see it as a big money damages suit ---- I doubt that the facts would support a large dollar amount in money damages ---very difficult to prove damages in a case like this one. It probably has more settlement value, as opposed to actual damages value, purely from the standpoint of PR/preventing embarassment and saving defense costs.

Guilty of the aqusations made by Forrest, to a degree, some of which violate NCAA rules. I'm not trying to say he is guilty in a court of law, I'm not even saying he has committed "major" violations, in fact I'll take back the comment that "he is gone" because I don't know what MSU would/will do to him. but he handle some situations poorly when setting his feet into his newjob, and the disgruntled are, well they are disgruntled! I'd say I might fill the same if it were my son, I don't know cause I think he's a piece of work but I understand his plight as a coach, harsh as it may have been.
