Question for the auto mechanics...

Postby marshman » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:44 am

My son has a 1992 Chevy 1500 pickup. It was his grandfathers before he got it. It starts up fine but after running awhile it shuts down. After a few minutes it will start up again and run for a while then shut off. It seems like once it reaches a certain temp it dies. then after a few minutes of cool down it starts again. Anyone have any ideas????

Had a 93 GMC doing the same thing. There is a "probe" on top of the intake manifold just in front of the carb(2 wires) that is temp sensor for mixing air and fuel. Once the engine reaches a certain temp this device opens or closes a circuit to create this mixture. Check where it plugs in. Mine was broken and when engine got hot enough motor would either shut off or flood out. Once it cooled down it would crank and run for days sometimes as long as it had connection. Hard as crap to figure out. Good luck.
