Destin, Fl, evacuated north to many times. Worst day of my life we knew we were in trouble with the flooding and winds in Destin.

Got some gas from a bud, side stepped Hwy 49 road blocks, went to H'burg cut a tree off daughters house after cutting my way in to the place. Checked on Pop's, Bay Vista, coming in the back way to Bluxi... Stood at Beauvoir/Hwy 90 looking across at what was left of Broadwater Marina...looked back to the west and President Casino(barge) was sitting in the lobby of the Holiday Inn...it had floated outa the marina and settled over there. I remember J. Cantorie, Weather Channel, standing on the Collesium steps saying a 25' surge was gonna hit. He got that one 'bout right, I suppose....none of us believed it... Some of it will never be the same again...Later DL :(

Sitting in the old ema building in Jackson listening to briefings as to when we would be sent in and then spent that Monday night at the fire academy.

Crazy week doing search and rescue in Gulfport, the pass and long beech.

No doubt they told us when we left desoto they where going to inbed us with y'all and ride the storm out with y'all. We decided about grenada negitive on that ghost rider.

Where you one of the guys from the fd that came by the eoc asking us to come help while we set at the eoc for eight hours waiting on them to decide what the wanted us to do.

I was at the Meridian NAS dealing with a FEMA/COE cluster. I went 2 days before the strom hit and was there 2 weeks after.
I swore to myself not to ever get in that trap again.
FEMA was a joke then, I hope they have changed/learned a thing or two from that storm.

In Starkville at my apartment in College Station (compton station). Started the day playing volleyball till the ball got blown away. We then moved to the pool which was flooding out into the flower beds. Stayed there till management made us get out cause we were so drunk and the transformers were blowing up. Got out the pool and the lights were off so we went to see "the blues man" and got a supply. Sat on the balcony the rest of the day drinkin Keystone partaking in shamefull illegal activities and listening to one of my roomies play the guitar. 2 months later i was failing out of school, imagine that, so I went to Biloxi and worked for Neel-Schaffer and got the coast cleaned up!

I was at work at AMR (ambulance) was sent to Bay St Louis to work in the EOC. Which was flooded, watched my new truck fill up with water. My wife (gf at the time) was in Biloxi at the hospitial one block off the beach. Spent most of the day praying and making peace with God.
I lost everything but I'm better for it today. You learn real quick what is important to you and its not the crap that floated out of your house.

Ha at least they were smart enough to pre deploy usar treams thru out the state. The first week we were down there we were with Ohio task force one. They were really nice they treated us like we were a part of their team.

Yes it was a smart move. The cluster was at the NAS after the storm for 2 weeks. With the trucks loaded with supplies.

Yea it was weird running about 90 mph in a convoy towards j town very little south bound traffic but a ton of northbound traffic that Sunday heading down.

Got to stay at the Cabot lodge Sunday night. We checked out Monday morning thinking we would be on the coast that afternoon. They held us up since the storm was moving so slow.

We ended up going to the fire academy with no electricity for the night.
