I have wondered why some company hasn't marketed an in-between cooler (price wise) to compete with the Yeti's. Obviously, the market is there for Yeti to succeed (to a degree), but I won't be one to purchase one. They have little competition in that price-point.

I hate my selection of coolers, but then again, most are the $25-50 versions. How about a Yeti knock-off around $100-125 bucks or so? That's the big market.

Agreed. An inch and a half more foam can't possibly be driving the cost up by $350 dollars.

A 45 should hold 45 wheather it cost 29.95 or 299.95, right?
"Its just physics"

I was talking about outside dimensions..

Just looking at the websites of both Yeti and Igloo

A Standard 52qt Igloo outside measurements are 25.38"L x 14.75"W x 14.38"H
The Iqloo Max Cold 50qt Exterior Dimensions: 25½" L x 15¼" W x 17.38" H and weights 11lbs
A 50qt Yeti outside measurements are 24 1/4"L X 17 1/2"W X 18 1/8"H and weights 25lbs

My point was that most folks by a cooler based on the size as they "see" not quart size.. Then get home and realize that Yeti is a lot smaller on the inside than it is on the outside and can't get as much ice in there when they put in a 12 pack..

It has nothing to do with Texas.. It has to do with being almost 40..After about 8 or so, I am worthless the next day..

Yeti's a good brand and commands good brand reputation, protects their price. For in-out constant beer drinking, it'll melt quick. But For going in 3-4 times a day, like I do, I've seen that once it gets good and chilled it keeps drinks ice cold for longer. JMHO.

They are really nice....but for the cost.... you can buy an aweful lot of ice....

IMHO.... I would bet it doesn't keep ice signficantly better than the igloo/coleman 5 day coolers out there.

Who gives a rip if it is bear proof?

I get about 5 years out of a $20 48 qt 5 day igloo before a handle breaks or a hinge breaks forcing me to junk the cooler. Doesn't seem feasable to spend so much $$ on a cooler that doesn't out perform my existing cooler.....

Well a little data from owning a yeti. As I said earlier I have an 85 qt. This past Saturday I filled the thing up with beer and four bags of ice, had a little cookout (frequent opening of the cooler), and left the cooler in the shed out back. Didn't touch it Sunday as I had to leave for New Orleans for the week. I got back home yesterday and needed a beverage so I went out to the cooler expecting the beer to need refrigeration for a bit before I could drink it. To my suprise the beer was nice and cold. Although it did not have ice chips in the beer as I know some of you enjoy, it was still very cold. I was impressed to say the least. Sat.-Thurs. in the heat and still cold beverages. Probably still good today. Will report back.

ha...Its just a house. Nothing special. I know I probably shouldn't have left it outside for that long, but the Yeti's safety wasn't my main concern Sunday; work sunday-thurs in nola was on my mind. I'll have alittle get together soon. Waiting for it to cool off a little so ppl can actually enjoy sitting outside.

Good thing it was bear proof....there are alot of Ole Miss up that way and you could have ran out of beer in a hurry. Be honest, could they get into it?
