Polaris Ranger

Postby JimAire » Thu Jul 01, 2004 10:06 am

Thinking about getting a Polaris Ranger sometime in the future...what is the opionions and experiences of you guys. It would be used on the farm for pulling a sprayer as well as duck hunting in gumbo..I would put the 27 inch tires on it to begin with.

I would not put the bigger tires on!

I've had 2 6x6 and the 4x4 like both machines!

The only complaint i've heard is about the transmition. Because of this I wouldn't put bigger tires, just mabye more aggresive tires.

I've heard that the belts slip but I don't know if that's true or not. I understand that opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one, but everyone especially has one when it comes to Polaris. I think they're (Rangers)pretty cool myself, but I've never messed with one. I figure that new Yamaha Rhino is pretty good, but then again, I'm guessing. Too bad Honda doesn't make one.

Let us know what you decide and how you like it. I'm interested to know some more myself.

Guy at my camp has one and if I had the dough that would be my next atv purchase. That sucker will go, my brother in law and I took it for a spin last winter and I was surprised how well it did. Drake liked riding in the back of it too. Everyone says the rhinos are tuff but the ones I have seen have two bucket seats in them. I believe thats the reason I would rather have a ranger b/c 3 can ride.

Get a Yamaha or Honda, I checked with several mechanics and they told me to stay away from them. Also a few friends HAD some and said they would not get another.

Honda does make one came out this year.

All of these machines are made on the Ranger concept. All have the variable speed transmission!

I know Honda uses an automobile style transmission in their Rubicon and Rincon four wheelers whereas Polaris uses belts. Do you know what type of tranny the Ranger/Rhino thing that Honda makes has? If it has the hydraulic trans like their four wheelers, I'd go with it over the belts.

I just went over to the Honda website and didn't see anything other than regular atv's. I've been holding my breath till they did come out with one since they always raise the bar. Do any of you have any links to it?

I didn't either. Wonder if they've got one in the works? I bet it'd be a good one!

I looked at some stats on the Rhino and Ranger:

Ground Clearance: Rhino=12.1"; Ranger=7.2"
Suspension travel: Rhino=7.3"; Ranger=6.25"
Bed capacity: Rhino=400lbs (I think); Ranger=1000lbs
The Rhino has three disc brakes, I don't know what the Ranger has, but with a top speed of 41mph, that booger better have something good to stop it.

I feel for you. I don't know what I'd do. I'm not really a fan of Polaris, but that Mossy Oak Ranger is cool. The Rhino is plenty sturdy I'm sure. I'd probably "feel" better about it, but like I said, that Ranger is cool.

Just wait on Honda and you'll be FINE!
