Budget entry level bow for 8 yr old??

Postby Blazer406 » Fri Sep 09, 2011 1:27 pm

Might be looking for a bow for my 8 yr old. He has never had a bow, but really wants one and eventually hunt with one. With as fast as kids grow, what is out there in a compound bow that doesn't have a fixed draw length? I obviously don't want to spend alot of money on a bow he will outgrow in a year..... so one that is decent that can last him a few years would be nice.

Any recommendations?

I would guess he is still a couple years away from actually hunting with a bow......

First choice would be the Craze, second the edge, and third would be the Bear apprentice. Check on Archery talk under the Youth or women's bows and you can fnd a pretty good deal!

I bought mine a Menace by Mission which is owned by Matthews, I think the draw lengths are somthing like 17-28 inches and adjusts from 20-50 pounds. I'm figuring I'll have to buy one more for them before its there turn.

I bought my 8yr old the Razors Edge last November for his birthday. He loves it. I was impressed with the way it shoots. We are going to go this month and get it adjusted AGAIN to his growing draw length. It seemes to be a solid little bow.

There was a used one on consignment at Bill's yesterday for $150-200, great condition and looked ready to roll. I think they're nearly $350 new.

Getting closer...... if I get him a Menace or a Craze..... I assume it comes naked.

What accessories will I need?

I am assuming - sights, an arrow rest, a release, and a quiver? ..... and a bunch of heavy duty (cheap) aluminum arrows with field points.....
