any ideas? SBE2 is only cycling on expensive loads
any ideas? SBE2 is only cycling on expensive loads
I bought my SBE2 in 2007. It has always worked like a champ until recently these past few years I have noticed it has started to not completely spit out the first shell after firing it. I would have to manually pull the spent shell out of the chamber in order for it to cycle the second shell. I never figured out why.
It wasnt until these past few weeks that I started to think that I have been shooting the same load the past two years (Winchester experts and Kent Fasteel). I started to think that maybe the loads are my problem, so I decided to buy a few loads of higher quality. I bought a box of heavy shot, remington wingmaster hd. the new remington hyperosnic load, and winchester blindside. All four of these loads cycled completely through my gun when fired no problem at all. This obviously told me that my gun has now decided to be selective and only favor higher quality loads since it fires these loads and not winchester expert and kents.
In conclusion, what do you guys think may have caused this to occur? Also, if i send it to benelli would they replace it with a new gun or would they try and fix it? Take note that my gunsmith has already tried to everything he can to fix this problem and nothing has helped. hes even replaced the spring within the stock and firing pin spring as well as a COMPLETE BREAKDOWN of every single part and says he doesn't see anything mechanically wrong within the gun.

Sounds like resistance to extraction. Chamber may need a real good cleaning and polishing with a drill, piece of cleaning rod, wire brush wrapped with steel wool. HTH
you did put in the plug, right?
Re: any ideas? SBE2 is only cycling on expensive loads
I thought so too. But like i said before, it was throughly cleaned by my gunsmith piece by piece. Trigger assembly was completely broken apart, bolt assembly, everything within the plug system, butt assembly and inertia system within the butt stock, everything. not to mention he soaked everything in a solvent solution. He checked every part too and said he didn't see anything wrong with anything.quack fiend wrote:Sounds like resistance to extraction. Re: any ideas? SBE2 is only cycling on expensive loads
Not sure about the 2007 model SBE but one I still own would do the same thing and 2 gunsmiths couldn't rectify. I finally figured out what was wrong. Take the butt pad off and there is a nut (1/2 inch I think) that attaches the stock to the gun. Remove it and there is a tube with a damper spring in it that in the older models was screwed on. That screw cap was loose and the gun would on occasion fail to eject. Apply Lok Tite and tighten it up. The newer guns have a sealed tube without the screw cap but that solved my problem. Good luck and hope this helps.

My 1100 was doing that too, good break down and cleaning fixed it.
Used a good bit of bore cleaner, paper clips, and pieces of parch to clean out the gas port in the barrel.
I was astounded how much crap came out of that little hole.

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Spring issue...
Take the spring out of the stock, stretch it to twice its length, then replace it in the stock. Should solve your issue until you can go online to Brownells and order Wolff replacement spring.
Wolff makes a heavy "magnum" spring that will solve any cycle issues with heavy loads.
FYI... If you plan on shooting light loads in your immediate future, save the old spring and replace before dove season etc...
