I'm the only duck hunter in the world that doesn't really like hunting with dogs. I don't mind hunting with yours but I damn sure don't want one.

That being said- i bet that was a great experience. good looking canine.

I dont know if you have thought about it but look into your local HRC club, If you need some direction give me a call 901-409-5088 or PM me. Getting involved with them will really add another demention to your dogs training, and by doing it yourself it will put you in company of people who have a wealth of knowledge. Books are good but hands on experience cant be beat.

BTW That is a good looking pup, Congrats on her first retrieve.

Very cool. This is my first season with my pup and the reward of training your own dog (especially being that it is your first gun dog like me) doesn't compare. Mine just turned 10 months and retrieved 21 birds (including 4 geese) last Friday like a champ.

That 4-7 month old stage was the most fun, and frustrating part. Remember that right now is the time that retrieving should be all about fun for the pup. Take her everywhere you can with you and don't stress too much when she acts like a puppy when you are training.

Get a puppy, train a puppy, hunt the puppy, enter a test, judge a test, THEN IT TAKES OVER YOUR LIFE!!!! Congratulations on the puppy! There is nothing else like watching YOUR dog do the work. (Pitch waterdog and get Lardy or Graham's stuff and train a jam up dog).
