Wildlife Management Area Public Meetings – South Delta and Southwest MS
JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Wildlife Management Area (WMA) public has two meetings scheduled for next week. These meetings will showcase regional WMA harvest data, habitat work, infrastructure improvements, and information about MDWFP. All WMA users, adjacent landowners, hunting clubs, and interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

WMAs to be covered at the South Delta meeting on February 15th will be Howard Miller, Lake George, Mahannah, Shipland, Sunflower, and TwinOaks at Hinds Community College - Vicksburg Branch from 7:00-8:30 pm. WMAs to be covered at the Southwest meeting will be Caston Creek, Copiah County, Marion County, Theodore Mars, Natchez State Park, Old River, Sandy Creek, and Wolf River on February 16th at the Copiah County Multi-purpose Building in Gallman from 7:00-8:30 pm.

"These meetings will give the MDWFP an opportunity to interact with the public and keep them informed about activities on these WMAs," said Chad Dacus, MDWFP Wildlife Bureau Assistant Director. "The primary goal for these meetings is to update the public on management activities on these WMAs and provide information about MDWFP."

MDWFP will be holding additional WMA public meetings in the coming weeks at Muscadine Farms WMA near Greenville and in Wade to discuss management activities on WMAs in those regions of the state.

MDWFP biologists, WMA personnel, and law enforcement officers will be in attendance to answer questions from the public.

I noticed a change in the wording form last week till this week on the intent of what the meetings are for.

LAST WEEK:
"These meetings will give us the opportunity to promote our WMA system, gain input from the public about activities on our WMAs, and provide information about MDWFP to the public," said Ed Penny, MDWFP Wildlife Bureau Director. "It is very important to the success of the Agency to meet and gain input from the public at every chance available."

VS THIS WEEK:
"These meetings will give the MDWFP an opportunity to interact with the public and keep them informed about activities on these WMAs," said Chad Dacus, MDWFP Wildlife Bureau Assistant Director. "The primary goal for these meetings is to update the public on management activities on these WMAs and provide information about MDWFP."

One sounds like we are listening the other sounds like we are telling and educating.

Not criticizing just asking.

That is the reason I made the post one is the head of the department one is the assistant 2 memos posted a couple weeks apart and those statements say two totally different things. When I get off today at 1700 I am going to drive 110 miles to Vicksburg attend a 2 hour meeting and drive 110 miles back home. I was at the meeting in the Fall so if the meetings is just to update me on "management activities" then I am not going to waste 5 hours and $60.00 in gas. If they are wanting to " gain input from the public" and at least consider what is said then maybe it's worth the effort.

I thought it was a good meeting. They took notes on everyones concerns. Mostly people voicing opinions on the draw system.

At least they are willing to listen to the public rather than tell us what they are going to do.
