Which ever bill passes both houses first will go to the Governor to hopefully be signed. Current indications are that he would sign the bill.

Lazy Mag's two bills (samples and out of state brewing) also passed.

On to the Gov. now to sign. :D hell yeah.

A minor point of clarification (not that it matters) is that SB 2878 came out of committee in the House and was passed by the Senate. That's what the "Hell Yea" is for. I agree. Double Hell Yea.

It's not quite over yet - although Governor Bryant has indicated that he would likely sign one of these bills, he has yet to do so. And even if he does, this won't become law til July 1st.

Is Sweetwater distributed in MS already? I don't think it is. It won't hurt for you to go ahead and contact them and express your interest in their beers. I do think the first beers above 6.25% alcohol by volume (5% abw) will be from breweries that already have distribution ties instate (Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Abita, Yazoo, etc).

i was told by my local good beer store that they were "supposed" to start carrying the sweetwater 420 ale, but that was over 6mo ago and i've yet to see or hear anything else about it...soooo..not sure if that was just the beer guy talking her up.

I'm not familiar with them, aside from people saying positive things. I'm all about an IPA.

I just know that some breweries will not distribute to a state if they can't distribute their entire product line.

I also know that breweries already on state will find it easiest to introduce higher gravity beers.

Edited to add: Checked with the Beer Geek people, they say they're not in the state at all. The good news is if this gets signed they can distribute some (if not all, I haven't checked their beers) - bad news is - it would be months away at the earliest.

I've waited 10 years, I can wait a couple months no problem. And he BETTER sign it or I'm gonna...... well I ain't gonna do nothin but bit#$ about it I reckon.

Already e-mailed them. Not like they needed me to. I'm sure it will be a while before they line up distribution in MS, but at least the lane is open now. Their entire line is between 6-7% except for the IPA which is just a touch over 7%. ATF actually shut down the sale of Sweetwater IPA in AL after testing it. Alabama's limit is 7%.

Yeah, all their beer's fall below 8%. IPA is the highest with a touch over 7. Looks like I'll have to do some thorough reading over on the favorite beer thread since we'll actaully be able to buy some those soon! I'm like a kid at Christmas right now!

their ipa is really good mid-late summer...ice cold...after a long day outside...they go down easy. the citrus part of it is really grapefruit heavy. ...didn't really notice it at first, but now it's the first thing I smell. kind'a reminds me of the smell of fresca as the first sip of a fresh pour tickles your nose.
i haven't found it in west tn, but you can find it at world(?) market in b'ham (one of the high end markets, it's a bit cheaper per case than beer stores..and they have a decent selection)...still haven't found/heard of a good beer store in t'loosa, so i usually head to vulcan beverage or diplomat in b'ham. (hop city in atlanta is a mecca for craft beer...selection is outstanding!)

One Question: Will we now be able to get Fat Tire Beer (New Belgium Brewery) in Mississippi? Thanks

ms will be allowed to sell it....not exactly sure how the beverage markets work, so i'm guessing it depends on interest, but i think that there will be enough interest in fat tire for it to be sold successfully in ms.

I used to be big fan of Fat Tire, but they got old quick after the first two or three.
