From the Commercial Appeal

North Mississippi law enforcement authorities said Monday they know two recent highway slayings are connected, causing fear and concern among some motorists about stopping on the highway.

DeSoto County Dist. Atty. John Champion offered these tips:

As allowed by state law, turn on emergency flashers, call 911 and drive to a lighted public facility or to a police or sheriff's office.

I seriously doubt there will be much flack given for failure to stop immediately in rural areas. Now if you are in the middle of town and a marked police car is trying to pull you over during the daylight hours, you probably don't have much ground to stand on for not pulling over immediately! Driving down desolate stretches of highway at night, I doubt many beatings will be given out given the circumstances!

WTF man? This was out of line and you would be best served to admit it.
Ok honestly I was out of line to say that. I will admit. Really without explaining.
But calling it how I see it.
Ive been pulled over before and cops were extremely nice and no problems at all, given me a ticket or citation what I deserved honestly. Been pulled over before also and been harrassed becuase I didnt stop right then, only driving down farther down to keep the cop off the main road and onto another street.. I call that respecting the cop and his safety, not being a butt or anythign to him.
Was pulled over becuase of speeding a couple weeks ago, the cop got on his speaker and hollered for me to pull over so I stopped in the median on the main road. Then he gets out and yells at me as to why I didnt pull on a side street, I explained to him bc he told me to stop now and nothing else. He was pissed off before he even walked to the car.
Thats what im getting at. You sometimes will get good cops, then sometimes you get cops with a attitude.
No disrepect to you LEO here or anything in that field. Just saying it how I see it.
Hopefully nothing does happen guys and sorry if it rubbed anyone wrong

I've had people slam on brakes almost causing me to hit them and practically stop in the road. I hate that. I'd rather they pull off in a safe spot.

You would be suprised at the amount of people that would do that to try and get you to hit them.
Again didnt mean to rub anyone the wrong way with that comment. More of just talking to myself out loud and typed it on here thats all.
So I apologize if I pissed anyone off.

Don't know why everyone got pissed off at that comment. Mark my words, some rookie will get pissed off because grandma didn't pull over
fast enough for his liking and will be taken to the ground at gun point. I'm not bashing either guys, it's just reality. Times are a lot different
than they were 30 or 40 years ago. Lot of crazy people out there posing as cops and a lot of cops with hot heads. (Disclaimer... Not all but some)
Besides, the cops that are trying to do the pulling over have been trained to be cautious of cars that don't pull over immediately. It's just in their
training. More seasoned veterans may not do this, but the new guy that hasn't been on the job long is still in the school mindset.

No need in getting pissed off at levis comment.

Rob, I am not really sure they teach a driver what to do during a traffic stop... dont remember that it was part of drivers ed class.

But that was 83 years ago, when I took it in high school. 8)

It's crazy where some folks pull over, I guess that's why they passed that law about moving to the next lane. I was pulled over for speeding in drivers ed so yes, it was part of my class...

My point was that many drivers put themselves and everyone involved in dangerous situations by how they actually pull over.

Rob brings up a good point. You want to increase officer safety get over enough so that the officer can walk up to your vehicle safely.

Roll down all your windows before the officer approaches so he has a clear view of the interior. If its at night turn on your interior lights as well.

Just my 2 cents worth

Someone above also posted about driving to a fire station. In rural areas most of the stations are all volunteer so there is a good chance there would not be anyone there.

I'm just gonna keep driving till I see multiple sets of blue lights. I figure if they can call for backup, then they're legit.

I think it's safe to assume this guy is some sort of serial killer. One has to wonder if he will lay low for awhile and strike again.

One thing an LEO friend of mine told me to do when pulled over is grab your license and insurance and put both hands out of the window in clear view. I do it anytime I am at a road block or pulled over. Takes a lot of the tension off when the officers can see both hands. I couldn't imagine how intense that is everytime you approach a strangers car totally blind as to what is going on inside. Intense, I have been told.

Try illegally tinted windows at night. Can't see jack through them.

I was coming home today and saw a white Crown Vic unmarked police cruiser on the side of the road. I could tell it wasn't an active police unit but it once was. I passed it by and then my conscience made me do a u-turn. Ended up being a young guy with a load of dirty clothes on his way home from college. Car had been broken down for about 4 hours and he was waiting on a boost. I checked him out very thoroughly, even called in local SO units when his tag and insurance didn't match the car. Turned out to be a tag mixup but I just couldn't go on down the road and wonder if that was our guy on the side of the road and I didn't even check him out.

I'll be the 1st to admit that mine are illegally tinted. That being said if I am ever pulled over night or day, I roll all 4 down. If its @ night I turn my interior light on too.

I saw a tan crown vic pulled over on 49W north of yazoo city yesterday afternoon and was surrounded by 2 game warden trucks, highway patrol and multiple local LE cars. Think LE is taking any possible leads very serious. Need to catch this one, pretty scary
