Live Webcam of RedTail Hawk nest

Postby eSJay » Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:29 am

Not sure if this has been posted before, but are any of you guys tuning in to the live webcam of the Red Tail Hawk nest @ Cornell U?

The pair (female “Big Red” & male “Ezra”) built their nest about 80’ high on campus a few years ago and are currently bringing yutes into the world. Hatchling #1 is now 2 days old; hatchling #2 is 1 day old. The 3rd egg is expected to hatch Thursday midday-ISH. The hatching process takes about 50 hours.

Pretty mesmerizing stuff (especially the hatch & feeding time) I tuned in yesterday and saw mama hawk “Big Red” ripping apart a bunny carcass and shoving it down the baby's throat. Good for the bird. Bad for the bunny.

Anyway, for the nature geeks, here’s the link to the live cam (includes sound).
Enjoy__sj

It sounds like they are at a loading dock at a UPS facility.
Good stuff.

I'll have to check it out. I found two Canadas in an eagle nest Sunday.

Why did 2 Canadas fly and land in an eagle's nest???

They are nesting. I heard of them doing this in an eagle nest on Beaver Dam a couple years ago. Eagles built a new nest not far from the old one. I also saw a Canada fly out of the top of a broken cypress tree in Little Eagle last year. Very weird.

I'll try to get pics this week.

Learn something new every day. I was trying to be a smart aleck. I assumed the eagle had killed the geese and was taking parts and pieces up to the little ones for food.

Anyone looked lately?
The 3 babys are huge now.
They are snacking on something.
