I've also got the wool liner (both jacket and vest) and those are as good as the coats. I could go to iceland and hunt with those two outer layers, and I wouldn't get cold. Plus they are lightweight and aren't bulky. If you don't have one, you ought to consider getting it.

is the tin cloth the preferred fabric of choice?
i felt it strange the waterfowl jacket doesnt have zipper for wind, or an option for a zip in liner.. i suppose or assume the liner vest/jackets layer well..

I looked at all of em before i settled on the one i posted above and a lot had to do with my preference of the shelter cloth over the tin cloth. seems to break in better and dry out quicker.

I wear mine everyday over my waders and a lot times the bottom half is wet so I knew I wasn't gonna need a liner and haven't wanted one. These jackets are mainly meant to keep out the elements. Layer up some and throw the jacket over everything and you're good to go.

Also, I only use mine for hunting. If you are trying to be fashionable with it I'd go tin, but for hunting only I'd go shelter.

I have this one and I like it because the liner does zip in. its all about preference. you won't be disappointed in any choice.

i got the tin cloth for sportin' round town and have worn nothing but this for hunting for years though these newer ones are designed slightly different:

never needed/wanted anything else....but i gotta admit i like alec and tj's options for hunting alot.

may have to make a new purchase sometime soon.

after having read many another thread... it begs the question,.. are there any filson wearers that also "poo the face" "face paint" or "ninjarize" their face... or is the filson wearer too traditional for such?
i hunt with a guy that swears by paint and wont hardly let you hunt with him if you dont..
he will also probably not invite me because the filson jacket wont be camo enough

Love it. It is a heavy jacket though. It laughs at wind and rain. Half the time I wear my old cabelas jacket. The breakup is so faded it is pretty much the Same color as a cypress tree.

That goes right along with what I told a guy in a pm: I enjoy being in a cold, spitting sleet, kind-of-day with that jacket on. My only complaint with my jacket is that it is heavy. I swear the hardware weighs 3 lbs alone. But hey...no derailed zippers for me. No busted buttons, and if we hit walk in areas, I don't need a blind bag. If anything, the jacket makes the equipment feel lighter because it distributes weight to a much more natural feeling than a 2" nylon strap. I honestly don't know anybody who owns Filson gear and claims to dislike it.
