Crow I was the guy from the fish camp. In those days the limit was 2 mallards the season lasted for 30 days. There were a lot of ducks and not many hunters and if you remember legal shooting time was sunrise not half hour before. We hunted the hole you are talking about opening day and had several hundred ducks come in before legal shooting time it was hard not to shoot. In those years of limits and season lengths half of what they are now in a way hunting was more fun. It seemed ducks worked better a lot of days you would not hear or see other hunters. We were truly blessed to have hunted in those times.

For the next three day's we had hunts that are still talked about around the fire place today. First group of over a thousand my dad put in the blocks i ever saw. Luckly a member videod those first three day's. We still have the video and re watch it every year.

that's why we all continue to go... no matter how good or bad the season is, the cautius optimism that today could be the day to witness that flock of birds setting in the hole, again.. would love to see that video.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

I could be wrong but i think the last time parts of the ms riv was closed was 88. I can't help but to be optimistic; things seem to be lining up nicely so far.

We shot a hole with one other fellow from a fish camp on Lake George and whoever got there first got theirs then the other party came in and got theirs. Unbelievable place back then. Wingman hunted the same area back then, I think.

I was that "friend" and I remember it well. I also remember when Richard went out of sight in that beaver run. Incredible year but man was I tired at the end. That was a long and nasty 4 wheeler ride in. But daily limits in the timber is pretty motivational. Wish I had it in me to see it one more time.

I started duck hunting in 1991 but I know where you're talking about! I have a board from an old blind in that brake made into a coffee table.
