That forecast doesn't contain enough 'cold' in the right places.....only, the East.
In a forecast for the NWT, there's some hint of snow and cold temps significant enough to move birds in mid-late October. That's AGAIN, awfully late........but should be good for the Prairie Region, Northern Plains and Upper Midwestern Sections of the US.
RE: #7 - More snow/ice in our area (without a significant migration) only means that the birds that are in our area at that time will be concentrated on open water......not fields and sloughs.

Compare the Weather Channel video to this forecast and the conclusion you get is that this far out is nothing more than a guess. They are almost opposite of each other in terms of where cold will be.

well said!
Re: 2012-2013 Preliminary Winter Forecast
Aside from the said preliminary Winter Forecast.......
.......things are setting-up nicely up North this week. It's pretty warm right now, but IMO by next weekend there should be some significant bird movement above the border and into NoDak due to approaching 'cold' temperatures and chances for some snow.
I wouldn't be surprised if you start hearing and spotting snow geese between the 6th and the 13th of October in Dixie.
