Legal or not????

Postby v-do » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:30 am

One of my buddies wants to go to the duck hole with us but he doesn't have his licenses, stamps or anything. He's never done Hunter's Ed so he had no hunting license. Is it legal to for him to come with us?? He won't have a gun, he will just be in the blind with us. I looked online but couldn't find anything. Any help is appreciated and a link if y'all have it online. Thanks guys

No gun....no ticket. There is a one time apprentice liscense available with no hunters ed that he may want to look into. If hunting on a WMA he needs a permit to access. May need to fill out an access card as well. Yall have fun

He can go to any license issue place and get a one time apprentice license, or something like that. Basically, he gets a free pass on his hunter education certificate. He will still need to purchase a license even if it is just a three or five day license.

I think they are allowed to take pics, IIRC.

We're hunting on a WMA. Thanks for the help guys. I'm just worried about him getting checked at the boat ramp and and not being able to go. I'll look into that license y'all are talking about

the laws say "participating in the hunt".
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I wonder if Wingman sits back and reads these types of questions and answers before answering, if needed. I know it may get annoying, but it would be nice to have a GW's input on what is ticketable or not and why.

That ain't gonna happen and I understand the reasoning behind why it won't happen. If Wingman answered all the legal questions that are posted here then he'd be spending all his time running around testifying in court when someone gets a ticket. The defense would be, "well, Wingman on Ducksouth said I could." Then since the judge doesn't know "Wingman" he'd get hauled into court to testify that he is the one and only moon-pie eating Wingman and testify as to whether he made the post or not.

I can understand the thought process in asking though as it would seem to just a simple thing to get a yes or no answer. But like with everything else in the world these days, nothing is simple anymore.

The apprentice license can only be purchased for one year. He will have to go through hunter's ed next year if he wants to hunt. I'm pretty sure anyone entering the WMA has to have the WMA permit regardless of hunting or not. If he doesn't get the license and just the WMA permit and ya'll get checked at the ramp I would be willing to bet the GWs hassle you a bit and may delay you some but to my knowledge you will be legal.

Well said Seymore, The GWs that do the Q&A and range portion of the HUnters ed class we teach will, at least once during each class, "EACH CASE IS TREATED DIFFERENTLY" so what question is asked on here my not be the situation in the field or when they GW walks up
Thanks

The reason some gw's 'round here probably don't answer much, is because every time they do, they wind up throwing in the towel after pissing matches. I have been guilty of it myself. Throwing in the towel doesn't mean you lost though.
