Cheaper to Rebuild Carburetor or Replace?

2007 yamaha big bear. Carb is sluggish and seems like a ring/seal is leaking oil. Is it cheaper to have it rebuilt or replace it all together. i think I can replace it myself but I am certain that I dont have a clue where to start to rebuild it.

Thoughts?

Look on ebay for "reconditioned" or already rebuilt carbs. Alot cheaper than buying an OEM one.

that is kind of the route I was leaning towards. I found a new one on ebay for $100 with free shipping.

Oil coming out of a carb? Sounds like more than a carb problem.

I am not a mechanic but it sure seems like oil. The motor is dry as can be and the only residue is on the bottom of the carb. Again, I dont have a clue.

Looks like you got a vent tube closed up causing oil to blow onto the carb. There is no way for a carb to leak oil out.

There maybe screen which acts as a filter of sorts at the end of that vent tube that may need to be replaced also? Check for that while you're at it. When I replaced my screen on my engine it quit pulling oil into the carburetor.

The engine I was working on is a Kohler go devil if that matters for this application.
