The Bible on History channel

Postby craziehunter18 » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:31 pm

What do y'all think of it?

I've only watched the first episode so far and I like the way it is put together and played out. I did notice though that it was not completely accurate in some places.

I have enjoyed both episodes. Wish they did not skip so much, but I guess it would take a lot more episodes to slow it down. I have heard ratings were very good. Maybe TV people are starting to realize that "clean" programs are in demand. The Bible series and Duck Dynasty have drawn ratings that will make them look for more possible opportunities. I am hoping The Bible series keeps very high ratings because I would love to see a spin off....something like several mini-series. Think they have just touched on the tip of the iceberg in what would be watched.

Yeah they leave out a lot of key details on things.

I noticed David picked up one stone the other night instead of 5. I don't think they have enough time to show every single detail. It is still the same story, just the high points so to speak. I really like it.

If nothing else it will get folks in their Bibles rereading those stories and it may get unbelievers interested enough to ask questions.

I agree with both statements. If they took the time to show everything, it'd be super long and I may be wrong, but I think it's supposed to be leading up to the "finale" on Easter Sunday. And yes, it definitely has people rereading those stories. My wife and I were at her parents' house when it came on and her little brother immediately got his bible out to follow along.

And if you remember correctly, Samuel didn't pick David out in the fields tending to his sheep. Jesse brought 11 of his sons to Samuel.... Samuel said none of these are chosen but isn't there another?

I agree with the interest of time, all the detail can not be added... but stories such as David's selection are neat to me and hate they are not told. And I never thought of the possibility of Samson being black.... just knew he was a Nazarite.

I had a conversation about this the other day. I think that that was an actor playing Samson who happened to be black. It's 2013, we shouldn't consider skin color when watching a "historically correct" documentary on the Bible.(sarcasm)

His father was from the tribe of Dan and his mother, the tribe of Judah. Samson was not black.

I've read the bible numerous times and I think we could never know that. He could have been from those tribes and been black. We could never know that and the bible never mentions that to us

With that logic, we could assume that Jesus was black. I do believe that blacks at the time were descendants of Moab. I could be wrong.

There is a long going debate that one of the tribes of Judea could have been black. The bible is not specific because in the grand scheme of things..Biblical speaking..doesn't matter. People have been trying to prove the black and white thing for years but there is no proof either way. Was Jesus black? The reason i don't think so is that i don't think..in that day and age, he would have had any credibility of who he was and what he was supposed to do. Remember, Jesus was the messiah and fulfilled the prophesy and the law. I don't think he could have done that, in that day and age, being black. But people have been painting Jesus looking Caucasian for year and we all know that is not the case. Most likely he had olive skin, dark eyes and black hair.

Also in Jesus's time..Once you accepted him as your lord and savior..you were his people. Black, white, or purple. The bible metions the jews..or followers of God as his people. Could blacks have not been believers too??

Somethings we can never know. And we can debate about them till the cows come home but there is not enough eveidence to support the claim either way...and as i said before..Does it matter in eternity?

I understand that we are all God's people, and I agree. I just don't believe in all this "politically correct" crap that is meant to brainwash and homogenize the population. If assumptions are made on a supposedly accurate depiction of Samson, the assumption of him being black is a very long reach. I think the fact that Samson was portrayed by a black actor, who was having a relationship with a white woman, wasn't an attempt to give an accurate account of history, but had another agenda. Just my two cents, hope I'm wrong.

Ask any Jamaican what they think about this one.....

I often ask folks why they have a picture of "Dan Fogelburg" in their church, you know, that long blond haired, blue-eyed white dude pretending to be Jesus likely in violation of the second comandment....

I know exactly what you mean because I thought the same thing. Sometimes the people behind the scenes seem to booby trap you into thinking they have an alternate agenda with the black/white thing just so they can pin it on you and say you are just racist when you say something about it. They could just have easily got a big, muscular white or other "person of color" to play the part of Samson. In the end, I just chalked it up to them making Samson stand out amongst the others. Whatever...

I guess I understand some things must be abbreviated/truncated to get it all in 10 hours, but they completely skirted all of what the bible teaches of creation.
