Anyone on here live in Natchez?
I have never even been to Natchez, and now possibly moving there in the near future. I was mainly just curious about schools? Is there public school district good? Bad? Is it better to live out of town in a smaller community somewhere? I am really just looking for any positive or negative things about Natchez or surrounding area. Its going to be a hard decision for my family, but figured I would ask y'all and get some opinions. Thanks

Public schools are horribble, that is why there are 3 private schools in town and one across the river. The best areas to live are south of town out 61.

No on the public three private in town lower elementary is good across the river. Monterey is a good school ( that's where I teach). I have taught in the public and private schools in ntz. Pm ant questions you have.

Just moved from there recently. Don't have kids, but I know what mshunter and hntrpat said about the schools is true, public sucks. I'd recommend living across the river in Vidalia, but if you want to stay in MS, try to find something out towards Kingston (southeast of town a few miles). Nice and quiet out there. That's where I lived for 2 of the 3 years and liked it.

there are quite a few of us from Natchez and/or still live there. I think it's still a great place to raise kids. I have nephews/niece at both ACCS and Cathedral schools and my sister and bro-n-law are involved in both schools. I think it's a good place to raise your kids, and there are plenty nice areas around the city you can buy a place.

Re: Anyone on here live in Natchez?
Thanks for the replys, looking at around the first of june we will be moving down there. We really don't want to live in an apartment but I think we are going to have to do that or find a house somewhere to rent. Any apartments to go look at or ones to stay away from? Anyone know any houses for rent? Thanks guys
Re: Anyone on here live in Natchez?
I'll ask around about rent houses. Shiz isn't cheap in Natchez. Vidalia is ok in some places.Kingston is in the country and could be a long drive.

I could come in on the back roads and be at the office in less than 20 minutes and avoided the catastrophe in progress on the 61 bypass near walmarks. I'd trade the drive over living in town any day.hntrpat1 wrote:I'll ask around about rent houses. Shiz isn't cheap in Natchez. Dude, you'd better go look around before moving to Natchez. I picture most apartments to be comparable to a war zone. DO NOT put your kids in the public schools. Vidalia does seem cleaner. The hunting should be good

It's nice, and pretty expensive. If all you're looking for in a hotel is a place to sleep and take a hot shower, the Quality Inn on Deveraux is half the price of the Eola, and they have free breakfast. I've stayed there several times.DuCkCoMaNdEr wrote:Is the Eola a good place to stay for a couple nights? Coming down to look at houses thursday through saturday and found the Eola on the internet.
