As a small business owner myself, I generally always make it right with my customers even if things are not my fault. Sometimes things just don't work out, and I would always rather have a customer leave thinking that I had their best interest in mind rather than making another enemy. However, there is nothing that can sour my willingness to be diplomatic and friendly than for someone to say, "you better or else I am going to..." Or some comment along those lines. Nothing gets a person kicked out of my business faster than someone trying to be Billy Joe Badazz with words suggesting they are going to do this and that.

I think you really ended the opportunity to get this process worked out to your satisfaction by making a comment about how you are going to take efforts to take it to court.

Having said all of that, I would suggest you look at the cancellation policy of the service you contracted and see if the company or yourself was in violation of that agreement. It would be hard for that company to make an argument that you cancelled when you drove six hours to get there. Likewise, it would be hard for you to demonstrate that he was the cancelling party if you failed to make the journey.

Ster, Nobody ever mentioned court.

Also, keep in my that when I said I would take measures to get my money returned it had already been right at 2 weeks since I canceled and 2 promises to pay from him. I personally would not hold on to somebody else's money that long after I said I would refund it. Especially in a business where reputation is everything.

If you weren't going to use the legal system then what "measures" did you intend to take?

File a complaint through Paypal.

Ifn his agreement states no refunds...your screwed no matter what he said or you thought he said IMO. Every outfitter I have ever dealt with has a cancellation policy. I woulda been there myself and recieved my refund after no kills

Pretty sure that wouldn't work. I don't believe you can file for a refund through Pay Pal for non-delivery of services. Pretty sure a hunting guide would fall under service. I you used a credit card or debit card to fund the Pay Pal transaction then the correct action would be to file a dispute with the card company. If the guides website clearly states "no refunds" then you are SOL.

As always please remember I don't know chit. Your mileage may vary. Change your oil every 3K to 5K miles. No warranties......Blah, Blah, Blah.......

And finally, please remember that it is always easier to catch flies with honey than vinegar.

Am sorry for your experience. Does said outfitter have a formal business, an LLC, insurance, web page or cancellation policy? I couldn't find anything other than a few threads on alducks about said outfitter by business or name. How did y'all find and come to gain confidence is said outfitter services?

If he is an out of state guide in Arkansas, does he have a guide's license? Might take that up with the BBB if so. You get what you pay for and should do your homework IMO. First, Snows are extremely unpredictable in Arkansas. This year it was warm and birds left quickly after the end of Jan. and keeping up with them was tough, just ask some of the better guides there like Bayou Deview Outfitters that have done this for years. When we at my club normally work on several concentrations of geese during conservation season we were dealing with one or two that was moving daily. Too many guys go on a hunt and think, "Hey, i can be a guide" and another star is born. It isn't that easy. $450 deposit for how many people and for two days? There are cheap hunts and good hunts, but few good cheap hunts! Sounds like you burnt your bridges before you got the promised money. To paraphrase the old cliche to fit the post, You can get more geese with corn than crap.

Man i hate to hear that. I know how you feel about it. Same thing happened to me on a dog from Jeff Whitlock about 3 years ago. Litter never dropped and then when the next litter finally hit, no yellows. So next litter was for sure gonna have some yellows. Guess what, no litter. After 3 times of "this" litters (or no litters), I requested my deposit back which he said he would do within that week. Lots of contact back and forth on when the money was coming and was event told once that the money was put in the mail yesterday. Still to this day, no deposit back and a hard $300 lesson. Hope you get yours back.

Did I read this wrong? You drive 6 hours to hunt...got there and you were told there were no birds AND if you didn't kill any you wouldn't be charged? So why did you not hunt? If I drove 6 hours and had an agreement that I didn't pay if I didn't kill I would have jumped all over that? People go every day of the season and pay big money and don't kill anything and still have to pay that money...Birds are wild
