Well, I wear this net on my head
'Cause my red hair is fallin' out.
I wear these brown orthopedic shoes
'Cause I got a bad case of the gout.

My first flare up was after eating fresh, grilled New England lobster. That was in acouple years ago. I've since had around 6 flare ups. Big toe on both feet, ankle, and left knee. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Now I'm on 300mg of Allipurinol daily, stay away from the good stuff like shrimp, lobster, crawfish, or any kind of shellfish. Try to limit the amount of pork I eat, but still eat some. Other than feeling a little arthritic from time to time, Im back to semi normal.

Allopurinol daily for me here too. Before I was put on it and got the uric acid level under control, I spent a lot of 2005 and 2006 in SEVERE pain. At least when it was in one foot only I could still walk. When it would hit both it was crutches time, and crawling to get to the bathroom because I couldn't let my feet touch the floor.

it hurts for your heart to pump. I remember during one of my worst flare ups, laying in bed crying because every time my heart beat it felt like somene was hitting both feet with sledge hammers. If you think that makes me a weenie, wait til ya have gout.

What is this gout...

Gout is a kind of arthritis that occurs when uric acid builds up in blood and causes joint inflammation. Acute gout is a painful condition that typically affects one joint.

Is this stuff genetic or what? Do lots of folks get it? Saw they have an immunization shot for the gout. Anyone recommend getting it?

I don't think you could ever be immune to your Uric Acid level getting high. That just doesn't make sense to me. The way I was told is anyone can get it at any time. Depends on how your body dumps the acid and how much of it you eat but it seems to get worse as you get older...etc...RICK....LOL

That gout is the real deal. I get it in my right elbow. The first time I had it I went to the doctor and said I must've fell out of my bed in my sleep. Thought I chipped something in there. He just kind of chuckled when he first looked at it and said young fellow what you have here is the gout. Like everybody else said I thought I was in the worst pain of my life. Don't wish that on my worst enemy
