You forgot to ask how much for being over the limit, because if you are willing to risk hunting over a baited field you are probably willing to go over the limit.

Been about 20 years, but best I can remember it's about $150 for the field and $100 per bird. At least that is what I think I heard in between all the cuss words coming out of my pop's mouth. I was only 12 at the time.

Seeing a lot of the responses to the "hypothetical" question, it seems that most people always assume the person was aware that the field was baited. The problem is with the interpretation of what constitutes a baited field. Hell, the Alabama version of the MDWFP had a field THEY set up last year for a youth hunt shut down by the feds, who claimed it was baited according to "their" interpretation. So, if you've ever hunted over strewn wheat, someone could say that it's baited. If it wasn't planted, there's always that chance you can get a ticket....depending upon who you are dealing with.

For real. It seem like two LEO's have two different opinions on what is baited or not. I have probably hunted over baited fields most of my life the way some LEO look at it. I say hunt the field, cross the baiting bridge when you get there.

The ticket will be less than actually planting the field, spraying, and all the other things associated with prepping a dub field.

Honestly, this kills me that this such a big deal is made over a baited field. 95% of everyone hunts opening weekend and then doesn't think about a dove. Early in the season very few doves are truly migratory. Fact of the matter is doves have a very limited liefespan. IMO let people bait and have a good hunt. It's a great way to introduce kids to hunting a bird that no one really cares about after Labor Day weekend. They reproduce like cockroaches. I get it when it come to ducks, that get hammered hard for a long time but doves? I had three of them nesting in my metal building. Dove hunting and the current laws need a reality check.... Just IMO. I am prepared to take the arrows from those that are worried about the sustainability of the species. Really how many hunt doves late in the season. It is sort of like the arugment of 45:70"s and true smoke poles. End of the day..... No one cares..... It's a bird that is not in threat of extinction
