There could be state law against it in MS, but migratory bird feathers can indeed be sold within specific parameters.duramax wrote:You can't sell any part of migratory birds. Too many "GOSH DARNIT" laws and regulations in this country. And it chaps my booty that law enforcement will spend our tax dollars trying to thwart these "criminals" while drug dealers and thieves are walking the street. When was the last time you heard "Jackson would be a nice place to live if they could just get these people selling mounted fish and game under control"???

Read 50CFR20. Feathers can actually be sold for certain things.
§ 20.91
Commercial use of feathers.
Any person may possess, purchase, sell, barter, or transport for the making of fishing flies, bed pillows, and mattresses, and for similar commercial uses the feathers of migratory waterfowl (ducks, geese, brant, and swans) killed by hunting pursuant to this part, or seized and condemned by Federal or State game authorities, except that:
(a) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter for millinery or ornamental use the feathers of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part; and
(b) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter mounted specimens of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part.

Hmm. That's interesting. But that's a mighty thin line to tread. If only I could have been contracted with a mattress or pillow manufacturer when we used to use the giant plucking machine at our duck club.Wingman wrote:Read 50CFR20. Feathers can actually be sold for certain things.

(c) Mounted game animals, birds and fish may not be sold, purchased or leased.
You could start with this one.
They don't enforce this law in plenty of other states, and not one of them is hurting for wildlife.

But you DID take your kid to Kansas for turkey and he shot over the limit......h y p o c r i t e.......and then you posted pictures of it on a public forum bragging about it......then act holier than thou talking about "we would have no game to hunt if there were no laws in place and people to enforce them". Your OWN SON broke the law and shot over the limit. Did you call the game warden? Didn't think so. So, before you start telling people to "get your head out of your gd'n booty", take a long look in the mirror, "cuz".

Re: Laws on selling taxidermy
They enforce that law in EVERY state when it comes to migratory birds. You can not sell mounted wild migratory game birds by federal law. Are you really that narrow to not see the harm if that wasn't a law? Let me help you.three11 wrote:Wingman wrote: And which other laws should we stop enforcing until we get drugs under control?"

Johnny wants to make a buck and figures out that if he quits his job and hunts 60 days of duck season he can legally kill 360 ducks if he is good and lucky enough. He doesn't like to eat the ducks, but if he mounts them and finds someone to buy them, he can make good money. Johnny normally only kills 50 ducks a year when he hunted just for fun. Now he kills 210 ducks more than before. Being conservative, say there are 1,000 Johnny's out there in the US (in reality it could easily be 10,000 people killing an extra 100 birds). All those Johnny's added up now kill an extra 210,000 ducks a year than they used to just because they found a way to make money doing it. Do you not think that would have dramatic effects on the waterfowl population?
Re: Laws on selling taxidermy
Can you sell the base or piece of driftwood attached to the mount and throw the mount in for free??
