Stay in the shadows and don't carry a dog unless it is well trained and mannered.

1) On public land, get there as early as possible and have three options picked out.

-If someone is in your "A" spot, be polite and back out.
-Go to your "B" spot. If someone is in your "B" spot, be polite and back out.
-Go to your "C" spot. If someone is in your "C" spot, you weren't early enough.
-Spend the morning scouting from a distance. NEVER walk into a hole someone is hunting right at shooting time.

2) Sign your duck stamp.

What's a duck stamp?

If I were you I'd pay for a couple of quality guided hunts.. You can ask the guide all the questions you want along with paying attention to his set ups , winds etc.. Will be on private land so he won't have any problem giving you any information or answers you might seek.

You re not really in the best of locations to be learning how to hunt ducks because the numbers won't give you as many chances to bump your head. Im not saying that theres not opportunities in south ms, just better in others And I promise the money spent on gas , gear, permits on missing or bumping your head etc will add up to be the same as paying for a few hunts.

A lot of good advice has been given but without the main ingredient , you won't know what you re doing right or wrong. Knowing some tricks of the trade will help on those days you re not on the x.... Cause when u are on the x....... None of it really matters

You been deployed to OIF or OEF ? We have a few waterfowl hunts lined up this winter. Preference goes to Purple Heart recipients but any spots we don't fill with injured veterans, will be filled with any veteran or active duty servicemember.

Hi Gratton,I am from Slidell so I know the area well.On the Mississippi side there is not as much marsh,mostly below Pearlington.However there is a club by Port Beneville that normally runs an add for members from time to time I believe in the $600.range but I am not sure.You can hunt the edge of the marsh down there out of a boat,plenty of dekes on long strings.Leave the mallard decoys at home or repaint them black or like Dos Gris.Lower Pearl can be good but it turns into a surface drive derby quickly.The Pearl swamp in the woods is mostly a woodduck shoot.But if you have acess to some of the big fishing lakes in your area, that you can shoot,you might look at them, some Mallards,lots of Ringnecks and Hooded Megansers and Canada geese.
Lots of good hunting further in Louisiana Look at Bayou Biloxi WMA out of Hopedale 40000 acres with very little pressure.

Hey come on down.I bet I won't see or hear you.Like I said it is a big area.,and I think all you 14'flat boat runners with 10 mallard decoys and chest waders will be be wondering what to do.So I will even give you some help.There are several different ways to hunt in there.
#1 find a little trenause heading into some brokenmarsh areas.push pole in a pirogue with 2 dz decoys and a bundle of mumbrushes,small ponds with lots of teal ,greys and spoonbills.
#2 set up in the larger5-20 acres lagoons(4-6' lines)The ducks,mostly greys will come into these lagoons to get water to digest the snails they ate in the broken marsh.also lots of merganers and buffelheads amd Dos Gris.
#3 just cruise around till you spot ducks then just set up on them.

The main down side is you have to be carefull where you set up,because the fishing traffic can screw you.
The area get better later because the higher feed areas like Delacroix and lower pearl and chef pass get hammered
and the ducks head out there with less pressure,heading to the high feed areas at night.

Use at least 4 mojo's all newbies do! Don't be the weirdo without at least 4 baby mojo's.... And don't forget your black face paint. Keep spare face paint in your bag, glove box, center console, dry box, boat, and one in your pocket!!! Dem duks see good!

haha yea ive got 7 things of black face paint... but I spent all my money on the face paint and dont have any money for the mojo decoys... but if you have some used one for sale i will take them off your hands...
